Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Calibration Technician to support our geotechnical and construction materials testing teams across multiple locations. This role involves monitoring, testing, calibrating, repairing, and record keeping of laboratory and field instrumentation and equipment to ensure accuracy and compliance with testing standards. Key responsibilities include coordinating with field and lab staff, maintaining inventory and documentation, and regularly traveling between BLE offices in Asheville, Columbia and Greenville, and potential future locations. The ideal candidate is well organized, detail-oriented, and proficient in calibration practices, electronic documentation, and Microsoft Office applications.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Calibrates and repairs test and measurement equipment including but not limited to: Soil drive tube sleeves, air pots, roller meter, tamping rods, straight edge, slump cone, thermometers, scales, unit weight platers, cure rooms and tanks,
- Completes applicable documentation related to calibration and repair assignments.
- Schedule, track and facilitate all third-party calibration testing and recertifications for E-gauges, and nuclear gauges.
- Maintain a MASTER list of equipment for each laboratory, ensuring all items are accounted for and up to date.
- Maintain an equipment calibration database with in/out of service dates along with associated accreditation requirements.
- Maintain an inventory of calibration tools, repair kits, and other small parts.
- Participate in quality assurance activities to ensure all calibrations meet industry standards and company policies.
- Regularly travel between three office locations to complete calibrations and repairs as required.
- Develop calibration procedural manual for training purposes.
- Demonstrate initiative and leadership in problem-solving and decision-making process
- Engage in continuous learning and professional development to enhance skills and expertise
- Utilize remote collaboration tools to effectively manage and communicate with team members
Minimum Skill Requirements:
- High School Diploma or General Education (GED)
- Must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record
- Strong analytical and report writing
- Sound critical thinking skills
- Strong mechanical background with ability to follow detailed, complex calibration procedures.
- The ability to comprehend and interpret complex compliance frequencies set by testing standards.
- Accurately complete all documentation and calibration forms within a timely manner to ensure records are properly filed within the company's electronic file structure and software.
- Self-motivation and ability to manage time and priorities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team with strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1-2 years relevant experience in the calibration of test and measurement equipment.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Able to work occasional weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed
Travel:
- Must have the ability to travel in and out of town on occasion.
