We're looking for the immediate hire of a bilingual (Spanish & English) Building Permit Technician who is highly motivated, detail-oriented, and a team player. The Technician's primary duties will include assisting homeowners, contractors, or others applying for a permit with the routine and technical information related to the issuance of building permits. Duties may include reviewing routine building code requirements and ordinances and assisting the public in completing applications and other required forms. The position is office-based and may require sitting or standing for long periods of time.
The person in this role will also be responsible for specialized processing services for building permits. This position is heavily customer service-based, therefore it requires a strong and excellent customer service approach with internal and external customers. The candidate will provide information and guidance regarding procedures for all types of building permits, which includes reviewing all the information and/or documentation that is required on the permit applications.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Provides information and guidance to the general public regarding application procedures for all types of building permits.
- Reviews permit applications for provisions of all required information and/or documentation.
- Distributes applications for necessary reviews.
- Monitors progress of permit review.
- Verifies completion of all required reviews, and notifies applicant of approved permit.
- Serves as liaison between reviewing agencies and applicant.
- Performs specialized processing functions for permits.
- May be assigned as special liaison with high volume customers.
- Tracks permit through inspection process to advise customer of status, problems, and final approval.
- Maintains building permit packets with detailed files of official records pertaining to the process.
- Addresses public records requests.
- Answers phones and assists customers at the counter.
- Handles customer questions and issues regarding permit requirements; refers technical questions to appropriate staff, and advises customer of action taken as necessary.
- May include image documents using small and large-format scanners.
- Maintains confidentiality of records.
- May be assigned to other office locations based upon operational needs.
- Attends work on a regular and consistent basis.
- Performs other related duties and tasks as necessary or as assigned. NOTE: Management retains the discretion to add to or change the duties of the position at any time.

- Minimum education required: High school graduate or GED. Additional training, certification, or education in a technical field is preferred.
- Bilingual in Spanish & English.
- Valid Florida Driver's license.
- 3 years of general clerical experience to include a minimum of 2 years of strong customer service.
- The preferred candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of experience in construction, building, or permitting.
- Experience working with permitting type software is a plus.
- Preferred candidates should have knowledge of the following:
- Basic land development and construction permit requirements.
- General permit processing and procedures.
- County offices and functions.
- Land development and construction terminology.
- Successful candidates will be able to:
- Deal with the public in a professional, courteous manner.
- Accurately answer questions and resolve problem situations or refer to appropriate office.
- Follow check lists and recognize different types of required exhibits and plans.
- Effectively use desktop computer applications and various forms of office equipment.

- The work environment of this job is primarily inside work.
- Able to perform shop math including fractions, percentages, ratios, multiplication, subtraction, division.

- Able to write detailed information and data in clear and proper English.
