Income Maintenance Caseworker I - Adult Medicaid

Hiring Range: $37,631.00 - $44,216.00 ( $18.09 - $21.26 per hour)

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
This position will be responsible for assisting the Income Maintenance Caseworkers by gathering information to determine/redetermine eligibility for the Income Maintenance programs and to assess the needs of the clients while gathering their information. This position will also interview clients, take phone calls, and do minimal eligibility to redetermine eligibility for the Adult Medicaid program. Position requires approximately 40 hours of work per workweek.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
To successfully perform this position, an individual must be able to perform the following:
- Support Income Maintenance Caseworkers II to allow them to process cases quickly and accurately.
- Submit applications and re-certifications into NCFAST within three days of receipt.
- Assist IMC II in obtaining verifications via phone, letter or electronically.
- Interview and verify information from clients in order to complete determination of eligibility for the Adult Medicaid program.
- Make appropriate referrals to clients for governmental or private resources that will be a benefit to them.
- Provides coverage at the front desk, switchboard, file room and mail room.
- Creation and maintenance of spreadsheets to assist in the tracking of work and to pull statistics for reports.
- Maintains file records through scanning information and files into our document management system and physically filing paperwork in the appropriate section of records.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from an accredited associate degree program in Human Services Technology, Social Services Associate, Paralegal Technology, Business Administration, Secretarial Science, or a closely related curriculum; or graduation from high school and two years of paraprofessional, clerical, or other public contact experience which included negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, gathering and compiling of data, analysis of data and/or performance of mathematical or legal tasks with at least one year of such experience being in an income maintenance program; or graduation from high school and three years of paraprofessional, clerical or other public contact experience which included negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, the gathering and compiling of data, the analysis of data and/or the performance of mathematical or legal tasks; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, WORKING CONDITIONS, AND OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURES:
- Standard vision requirements, with or without corrective lenses
- Occasionally spends time standing, walking, and reaching with hands and arms
- Frequently spends time sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands or finger to handle, feel, type, or text, and engaging in repetitive motions
- Must be able to express and exchange ideas through verbal communication
- Must be able to prepare and analyze written or computer data
- Subjected to some mental effort and potential stressful situations during day to day operations
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Proficient in spoken and written English
- Ability to convey detailed instructions loudly, accurately, and/or quickly
- Ability to receive detailed instructions or information through verbal communication
- Ability to select and apply data from several sources, such as guidelines, policies, and procedures
- Verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to operate and use systems, technologies, and machines required to perform duties of this positions including Microsoft Word and Excel
