Summary
The Staff Accountant at Burlington Country Club is responsible for the payroll preparation, general accounting duties, and gaining proficiency to be a back-up for the Controller during absences. The Staff Accountant is responsible for managing the daily operations of the accounting functions while working closely with all departments throughout the organization.
Job Description
- Maintain accurate electronic and hard copies of employee payroll related reports.
- Maintains a payroll processing system and time clock, process payroll bi-weekly.
- Working knowledge of Club policies and guidelines as outlined in the Club’s Employee Handbook and Club by-laws and rules.
- Update and maintain the Employee module within club’s internal accounting system with necessary employee data.
- Assist the Controller in developing policies and processes to control and coordinate accounting, inventory, auditing, budgets, taxes and related activities and records.
- Assist the Controller in preparing forecasts and analysis for all administrative and managerial functions.
- Assist the Controller in assembling information for external auditors for the annual audit.
- Assist the Controller in generating ad hoc reports including F&B and golf shop revenue, annual expenses etc.
- Become proficient in the Club’s internal accounting system.
- Become knowledgeable and proficient in calculating and reporting all applicable sales and meals taxes, city, state, federal, as well as assist with 990 preparations under the direction of the Controller.
- Assist the Controller in the billing schedule and monthly statement generation including prepaid minimum adjustments and late fees.
- Coordinates and processes annual membership renewals and billing of all member fees including initiation fees, dues, F&B minimums, capital and debt contributions, swim team, and all ancillary charges as directed by the Controller.
- Assist in weekly check runs including generating cash requirement reports.
- Generate monthly member AR statements and distribute them via email or mail.
- Process and post member payments.
- Assist controller with member AR adjustments.
- Bank runs to deposit daily cash sales.
- Research and reconcile ACH/credit card bank deposits, NSF, and short pays.
- Assist controller with year-end audit.
- Set up new members in the accounting system, in charge of making billing adjustments related to a change in membership. Keeper of the membership roster.
- Manage the POS system (Clubessential) on multiple platforms across all Club departments.
- All other necessary tasks deemed by the General Manager.
Education
- Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in accounting/business, Finance, or related field, or a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a staff accountant in a business environment
Qualifications
- Knowledge of accounting procedures and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- The ideal candidate will have at least two years’ accounting experience, preferably working at clubs or other hospitality organizations with a 501(c)(7) non-profit designation.
- To succeed in this position, the individual must be extremely organized, meticulous, and able to perform the essential duties at a high level.
- Proficient in general administrative tasks.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel
- Aptitude for working with numbers.
- Attention to detail and extreme accuracy is a must.
- Ability to be self-disciplined and work independently.
- Works as a collaborator with all the staff, Senior Management, and external support.
- Excellent communication internally and externally
- Enthusiasm for learning and the ability to independently research solutions/answers to complex problems and/or variances
