This position is 20-30hrs per week, M-F
This position is great for an early educator seeking summer employment in a fun play-based learning environment. Our Summer Camp Programs offer a variety of fun project-themed learning opportunities.
We offer before and after care outside of our summer hours and we are looking for new staff members to bring on the team this summer with opportunities to continue working in the upcoming school year.
Hours: Part-time or Full Time available
Pay: $17.00 - $22.00 per hour (based on education and experience)
Expected hours: 25-39 per week
Schedule: Mon-Fri, Hours can vary from 9 am-4:30 pm
The Summer Camp Assistant /Closer works directly with the Camp Lead Teacher or After Care Program Lead Teacher in the classroom. The Assistant Teacher supports the program by:
- Supervise children during activities and ensure their safety.
- Help children manage their behavior and address social and emotional needs.
- Supporting the Camp Lead teacher in implementing the actitivies, supporting with daily classroom routines and schedule.
- Support children with personal care needs such as toileting and washing hands.
- Supporting with setting up, cleaning up, and maintaining equipment.
- Working in the aftercare program after camps from 12:30 pm-4:30 pm. Assisting with the take over of the overall operation of the classroom when the full time staff leaves for the day. This includes but is not limited to nurturing, guiding, and directing behaviors, and communicating with parents.
- Completing all necessary tasks to properly shut down the facility at the end of the day, including securing the building, cleaning up common areas, ensuring all children are accounted for, and documenting important information, essentially acting as the final check to ensure everything is ready for the next day's operations.
- Cultivating positive relationships between children, families, staff and their larger community to strengthen the foundation for healthy learning and child development
Duties and Obligations of Employee: As Summer Camp Assistant you are responsible for Registering in the DCYF MERIT system and maintaining your records in the MERIT system and all other licensing requirements.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Enthusiasm and a positive attitude
- Must have an Initial Certificate in ECE or higher.
- Prior experience working with children.
- Organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours
- First Aid, Infant and Child CPR, BBP training and certification, Food handler permit, negative TB test (to be completed upon hire)
- Friendly and nurturing disposition.
- Knowledge of basic childcare principles.
- Ability to assist with the takeover of the overall operation of the classroom when the full time staff leaves for the day. This includes but is not limited to nurturing, guiding, and directing behaviors, and communicating with parents.
