Burlington School District is accepting applications for a passionate and energetic Elementary Art Teacher to join a school committed to high levels of achievement for all students under a Long Term Substitute from April 15, 2025 through the end of the school year. The Art Teacher instructs students at the elementary level in activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth in subject matters and skills that will enable them to maximize their potential as learners. Creates, organizes and implements meaningful and engaging lessons/instructional programs to diverse groups of students in an elementary learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential, as well as help them develop their character, personality and social and emotional skills. Promotes enthusiasm for growth and development. Adheres to state curriculum standards. Collects and reports on correct and detailed records of student performance. Creates and maintains a safe and respectful learning environment. Creates a relationship of mutual trust and respect with students from all backgrounds and abilities.

Job Requirements:

• Licensed or eligible for Vermont Educators License.
• Endorsement in 02-Art or eligible for Vermont Provisional License.
• Documented or eligible for NCLB Highly Qualified Teacher status.
• Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Required Qualifications:

• Experience teaching at the elementary level.
• Proficiency with multiple media, visual literacy including art elements and principles, art history, aesthetics, and organizing an arts classroom environment.
• Experience in differentiating instruction and planning curriculum using “backwards design” and formative assessments.
• Experience in integrating technology into classroom instruction.
• Understanding of Cultural Competency (as explained through Essay 1 on SchoolSpring).
• Knowledge of best practices in engaging and motivating students and managing student behaviors.

Preferred Attributes:

• Experience in professional/teaching learning community groups including working collaboratively with colleagues to plan units of study, review student data and progress, and adjust instruction.
• A commitment to student-centered learning approaches including personalizing instruction and supporting students meeting core proficiencies
• Training and/or experience with English Language Learners
• Experience in implementing inclusive practices for students with disabilities
• Ongoing post graduate coursework in education or art

EMPLOYMENT TERMS:

• SALARY: Long Term Subs (1st 30 days): $20.00 per hour for 7.75 daily hours
  Long Term Subs (Day 31 ): $36.96 per hour for 7.75 daily hours
• CONTRACT TERM: March 4th 2025 - June 4th 2025.
