The Structural CAD Technician will assist technical teams of detailers, designers and engineers to create world class detail on a variety of projects. This position will assist in developing computer-aided drafting design solutions
- Assist in the execution of various structural project designs including process equipment foundations, pipe rack and process structure foundations, process structures, pipe racks, miscellaneous pipe and cable tray supports, modular and revamp work, paving and storm drainage systems. Assist in the development of project deliverables includes FEP phase design concepts through detailed design.
- Assist with a full range of drawing production work including problem analysis, model development, drawing extraction, design layout and calculations on non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity.
- Assist with a variety of assignments using prescribed methods and standard techniques including drawing sequence, layout and presentation, sizing various system components and refining rough sketches.
- Demonstrates ability to exercise independent design decisions. Execute changes to designs or sketches and redlines or mark-ups on ongoing projects.
- Work with vendor data and personnel from structural and other disciplines for the development of design deliverables.
- Ability to interpret and apply design codes and specifications, related to design requirements, into project deliverables.
- Incorporate schedules, budgets and project criteria into structural design and deliverables.
- Organize and maintain all revisions of project 3D model, drawings, plot files and project-related information in a logical and well-structured manner.
- Assist with the assembly of bid and construction work packages.
- Participate in the structural design Quality Review process, including work completed by BMI HVEC. Includes back checking drawings, models & components, clash detection in Navisworks and review of shop drawings using model.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED and course work in drafting technology or specialized CAD certification required.
- Bachelor or Associate Degree in computer aided drafting/design preferred.
- Basic knowledge of commands in at least one CAD program; ability to occasionally use higher-level commands, time saving programs and routines.
- Basic knowledge and experience in AutoCAD, MicroStation, TEKLA, Frameworks, PDS, SP3D, Navisworks, Smart Plant Review and Excel preferred.
- Basic knowledge in the theory and practices of structural discipline; and fundamental concepts of other disciplines as they relate to the assigned discipline; and capable of operating related discipline design software necessary to execute production tasks preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work in collaborative team environment.
- Basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs, including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Demonstrated leadership skills.
- Self-motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field.
- Ability to meet deadlines and budget.
