Job Summary

The Sales Manager for the Oil & Gas industry will be responsible for driving business growth by managing client relationships within the oil and gas sector, identifying new business opportunities, and providing technical solutions from the company’s product portfolio. This role combines a strong chemistry background with sales acumen, ensuring clients receive both technical and commercial support tailored to the unique needs of the Oil & Gas sector. The successful candidate will have expertise in understanding industry-specific challenges, providing tailored chemical solutions, and fostering long-term relationships with key players in the industry.

 

Key Responsibilities

Sales and Business Development

  • Develop and execute sales strategies to grow revenue in the Oil & Gas sector.
  • Proactively identify and pursue new business opportunities by engaging with prospects, key stakeholders in the industry and expanding existing accounts.
  • Prepare and present technical and commercial proposals to potential and current customers, aligning with their specific needs.
  • Negotiate contracts and close deals that drive revenue growth, while maintaining profitability goals.

Account Management

  • Manage and grow a portfolio of key Oil & Gas accounts, ensuring ongoing relationship management and business growth.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customers, understanding their business goals and providing solutions from the company’s chemical product line.
  • Conduct regular meetings with customers to discuss current projects, address concerns, and explore opportunities for growth.

Technical Expertise and Consultation

  • Utilize a strong understanding of chemistry to provide customers with technical insights on product applications, performance, and benefits.
  • Collaborate with customer R&D and production teams of Oil & Gas customers to understand their requirements and offer technically sound solutions.
  • Provide technical sales support to ensure that customers understand the value of the company’s chemical products in their specific applications.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with internal teams, including R&D, marketing, and production, to develop and deliver solutions tailored to customer requirements.
  • Provide customer feedback to the internal teams to guide product development and improvement for Oil & Gas applications.

Market Research and Strategy:

  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, market developments, innovations and competitive activity to ensure the company’s offerings remain competitive and aligned with market needs.
  • Conduct technical and market analysis to identify potential areas for growth and contribute to strategic business planning.
  • Attend industry events, trade shows, conferences, and customer meetings to showcase the company’s capabilities and establish new business contacts.

Qualifications


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or a related technical field. An advanced understanding of chemical products and applications within the oil and gas industry is preferred.
  • 5–10 years of relevant experience in sales, technical account management, or business development within the oil and gas industry, particularly in upstream, midstream, and/or downstream sectors.
  • Experience in selling chemical products or services, including drilling fluids, production chemicals, corrosion inhibitors, and other chemical solutions used in oil and gas exploration and production.
  • In-depth knowledge of chemical applications in oilfield services, such as production enhancement, flow assurance, well stimulation, and asset integrity.
  • Ability to provide technical solutions for oil and gas companies based on a thorough understanding of their production processes and operational challenges.
  • Proven track record of developing and closing new business in the oil and gas sector, meeting or exceeding sales targets, and expanding existing customer accounts.
  • Demonstrated ability to sell technical chemical products and provide high-level consultation on their application in oilfield operations.
  • Capability to understand customer challenges in drilling, extraction, and production and provide chemical solutions that address these issues.
  • Ability to conduct technical evaluations of customer needs and tailor product offerings to provide effective solutions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical information and value propositions to oil and gas professionals, including engineers and procurement managers.
  • Expertise in negotiating contracts and closing deals while maintaining profitability goals.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with rapidly changing priorities, particularly in the oil and gas industry, which can be volatile and highly regulated.
  • Aggressive mindset towards developing new business opportunities from their initial discovery to obtaining the first purchase order.
  • Must have the ability to challenge the status quo, think differently, and have the ability to build relationships with customers at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong prioritization and time management skills to manage multiple customer accounts and projects.
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites, oilfields, and refineries, as well as attend industry events and conferences to develop and maintain relationships.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with oilfield service companies, including providing chemical solutions for enhanced oil recovery, well treatment, and drilling.
  • Familiarity with oil and gas industry regulations, environmental standards, and safety protocols, such as those set by API (American Petroleum Institute) or OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration).
  • Established network of contacts within the oil and gas sector, including relationships with key decision-makers at oil companies, drilling contractors, and service providers.
  • Ability to conduct market analysis and competitor assessments to identify new opportunities for growth in the oil and gas sector.

  • Collaboration: Ability to work closely with R&D, production, and marketing teams to ensure alignment on customer needs and product development.
  • Adaptability: Capable of working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with shifting priorities.
  • Problem Solving: Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills to address customer challenges and provide effective solutions.

 

Work Environment

  • Travel is required to meet with customers, provide technical presentations, and attend industry conferences.
