What are the responsibilities and job description for the Math Teacher 2025-26 (Middle School) position at Butler Academy?
Butler Academy is seeking the world's most amazing Math Teachers for the 2025-26 school year in hopes of pushing our Excellence to the next level.
At Butler Academy, or BA for short, we’re committed to building something extraordinary, and we won’t settle for anything less than the most talented, innovative, passionate, and committed educators we can find. Our goal is to engage teachers who are committed to closing the achievement gap by making BA a dynamic learning environment where every child is genuinely embraced and uplifted.
Mathematics is a beautiful subject, full of compelling intellectual challenges and deep connections to virtually every aspect of life. If this sounds like something you would say, then we're looking for you! Being a math teacher is a wonderful mathematical challenge. Each student sees math from a unique perspective, which is often very different from our own. This is why teaching math requires more creativity (and more understanding) than most people imagine. We're hoping for a teacher that is super excited about math, and ready to share that passion with their students. Again, if that's you, we can't wait to support you!
Becoming a great teacher takes continuous practice and a commitment to personal growth in tandem with a school culture that truly embraces a growth-for-all mindset. To facilitate this, BA teachers will receive real-time coaching and participate in meaningful weekly feedback and observation sessions with trained instructional coaches.
Our Model:
- BA operates on a modified year-round calendar and will serve grades K – 9 for the 2025-26 school year, adding a grade each subsequent year until we are K – 12
- Our 8th graders take Algebra I and we're looking for a teacher that can teach this class (and others) and grow with us as we add grades 9 - 12.
- Average math class size is 15 scholars
- We place strong emphasis on social-emotional learning
- We value rigor and exceptionally high expectations in addition to differentiated support to meet the needs of all scholars
As part of your commitment, we ask that you:
- Embody Butler Academy’s mission, vision, and core values.
- Implement our adopted standards-aligned curricula with fidelity.
- Provide engaging, differentiated, appropriately paced, and rigorous instruction in whole-class, small group, and individual settings.
- Establish and maintain a culture of growth and achievement in your classroom.
- Lead SEL-based Morning Meetings with your scholars each day.
- Uphold school-wide and class policies, rules and consequences at all times.
- Analyze student achievement data with colleagues, instructional coaches, and leadership team members to strategically respond to the learning needs of your scholars.
- Use data to inform instructional development and delivery.
What you’ll need:
- Bachelor’s degree (conferred by July 1)
- SC Teacher certification (or transferrable certification from another state)
- An enthusiastic approach towards weekly coaching and feedback conversations
- A strong belief that all scholars can succeed; regardless of their race, class, or gender
- An ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
- A commitment to constant professional growth and development
