WORK YEAR: Part-time (part-time schedules may vary depending on caseload, no more than 15 hours

per week)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

A Youth Peer Partner is a young adult, over the age of 18 who has personal “lived experience”

with one of the youth-serving government or educational systems (ex. Involvement with child

welfare, developmental disability, Individual Education Plans (IEP), juvenile justice, mental

health therapy, special education, and/or substance use treatment) who wants to provide

guidance and support to other youth with complex challenges.

A Peer Partner will walk alongside a youth, through the Wraparound planning process both

during meetings with community partners and one-on-one. Peers have expertise and

understanding that professional training and education cannot replicate, by sharing their

personal stories they can help normalize and guide teens in similar situations. We are looking for

someone who is passionate about advocating for youth, helping them find their voice and

empowering them to use it, exploring the youth’s strengths, and connecting them to

opportunities in the community.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Applicants must be over the age of 18 and have “lived experience” or have personally

received help from a service system (child welfare, developmental disability board, juvenile

justice, mental health/substance use treatment, special education, substance abuse, etc.).

The state of Ohio defines youth peer support as youth ages 18-26 years old.

  • Desire to work with youth and families.
  • Ability to operate with a non-judgmental attitude and ability to respond with empathy.
  • Willingness to learn, about, and work with youth from diverse backgrounds.
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn about the child-serving systems and resources for

youth in Butler County.

  • Good organizational skills and ability to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Commitment to working as a team member in a team-based process.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Understanding of ethics and boundaries in serving youth.
  • High School Diploma, preference working on a college degree in a related field.
  • Peer certification or willing to be trained as a certified peer partner.
  • History of good job attendance.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary and work year as established by the Governing Board. The employee shall remain free

of any alcohol or non - prescribed controlled substance use in the workplace throughout his/her

employment in the District.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy

on Evaluation of Support Personnel.
