What are the responsibilities and job description for the POOL MANAGER (SEASONAL-FT) position at BUTLER COUNTY FAMILY YOUNG MENS CHRISTIAN AS?
The Pool Manager is responsible for the daily operations of the pool, including staff training, scheduling and supervision, enforcement of rules and all administrative duties. Will maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck and surrounding areas; create a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
Qualifications:
- Minimum age of 18.
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a lifeguard, required.
- Strong supervisory and organizational skills, required.
- Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard Certification required; LGI certification preferred.
Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
Essential Functions:
- Create, manage and monitor daily work schedule for pool staff; help to ensure appropriate coverage for all shifts. Required to be on the schedule to guard alongside other lifeguards.
- Expected to lifeguard if any shift is not covered.
- Supervise, maintain and clean pool deck, grounds, filter area, restrooms, and office/lifeguard rooms.
- Assist in providing an ongoing orientation program and in-service trainings along with regular staff meetings.
- Maintain effective, positive relationships with the members, participants and staff.
- Maintain accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the State Health Department code.
- Maintain constant surveillance of the pool areas; Know, understand, and consistently apply safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool areas.
- Know/review all emergency procedures and respond to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
- Perform equipment checks and documentation to ensure appropriate equipment is available as needed; keep pool and instructional equipment organized and in its proper place.
- Perform chemical testing and documentation at appropriate times of day, as required, and take appropriate action.
- Manage concession stand to include the maintenance, operation, staffing, cleaning, ordering/delivering of appropriate supplies.
- Assist in the coordination of special activities and events as requested.
- Accept constructive criticism and take corrective actions as needed.
- Provide quality member service by knowing members by name, displaying a pleasant and professional attitude at all times, assisting members, and referring questions or concerns outside your area of expertise to the Aquatics Director.
- Maintain pool areas in regards to equipment, safety, inventory and cleanliness.
- Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Work schedule will include daytime, evening and weekend hours and ability to travel to all program activity sites.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to pass lifeguard water test. Physically perform all skills required of a lifeguard.
- Remain alert with no lapses of consciousness.
- Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals.
- See and observe all sections of an assigned zone of responsibility, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a water rescue.
- Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situations.
