What are the responsibilities and job description for the Overdose Fatality and Suicide Review (OFSR) Coordinator position at Butler County Health Department?
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the Senior Epidemiologist of Community Health Services, the Overdose Fatality & Suicide Review (OFSR) Coordinator will facilitate Butler County’s Overdose Fatality & Suicide Review. The coordinator will also facilitate Butler County’s Overdose Fatality & Suicide Review Recommendations subcommittee and work with subcommittee members to strategize on how to implement recommendations to prevent future deaths. The position will work closely with the Coroner’s Office, as well as with other community partners to collect information needed for the reviews.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develop and maintain relationships with participating agencies on the OFSR team to facilitate data sharing and support for recommendation development and implementation.
- Maintain signed confidentiality agreements for OFSR team meetings and meeting confidentiality agreements forms.
- Investigate the personal background of fatal overdose and suicide cases using social media, obituaries, data provided from community partners, and other resources.
- Notify OFSR team members of overdose fatalities and suicides selected for review.
- Prepare meeting materials (e.g., slides, minutes, recommendations).
- Ensure team members work toward a shared understanding that overdose and suicide deaths are preventable.
- Create the annual reports for overdose and suicides, as required by Ohio Revised Code.
- Track/monitor recommendations that come out of the OFSR meetings to ensure these recommendations are being acted upon.
- Leads facilitation of the recommendations subcommittee and identifies implementation strategies
- Plans recommendations subcommittee meetings and works with subcommittee members to implement proposed changes in systems and programs to prevent future overdoses and suicides
- Identify, with input from the team, new members needed to expand the expertise within the OFSR team.
- Orient and train new team members to the OSFR purpose, process, and team member expectations.
- Oversee student interns as needed.
- Complete any grant reporting requirements.
- Attend training sessions, meetings, conferences for continuing education of current trends in the field.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work hours may vary, some non-traditional hours may be required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, public health, human services or other related field.
- Passion and commitment to reduce overdose and suicide deaths in the county.
- Experience coordinating and facilitating meetings.
- Emotional resilience to manage reviewing sensitive data/information regularly
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge in overdose and suicide prevention, substance use disorders, mental health, recovery, and drug policy
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid Driver’s license in good standing, insurable by the Board of Health’s Policy
