Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Noxious Weed Supervisor, the Noxious Weed Sprayer II performs manual and semi-manual work in the control and eradication of noxious weeds in Butler County. Work involves operating a variety of light, specialized equipment and performing related manual tasks.
Examples of Work (Essential Functions):
- Applies both restricted and general use herbicides;
- Sells chemicals to the public and receipts payments; assists in the loading and unloading and inventory of chemicals;
- Assists with day to day operation of shop and office; enters information into computer database for monthly reporting;
- Assists customers on basic/general information on the telephone or at the counter; take messages, or transfer calls to appropriate individuals;
- Computes, collects proper fees and receipts money;
- Prepares and codes invoices for payments, work with Pcard system, turn in timesheets for payroll;
- Balances and reconciles receipts, prepare daily deposit of receipts;
- Obtains quotes for chemicals; keeps an inventory of chemical on hand;
- Prepares information for annual Noxious Weed report;
- Creates, maintains, and enters information into database;
- Types, copies, files, and scans documents;
- Completes records and forms as required;
- Follows safety rules;
- Maintains records on all work performed;
- Maintains shop area in good order;
- Mixes chemicals and sprays infested areas with chemical solutions;
- Operate, maintain and program a sprayer truck;
- Patrols designated areas in order to locate noxious weeds;
- Performs light maintenance and servicing of work in connection with the operation of related equipment;
- Performs unskilled manual work as assigned;
- Performs other duties as deemed necessary or as required.

Certificate, License: Valid commercial driver's license. Subject to random drug and alcohol testing. Noxious Weed 9A Category and 6 Certification Operator License Basic School Certification. Certification in noxious weed application.
Required Education and/or Experience: One year related experience, High School Diploma or G.E.D.; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Employee is expected to have acquired the necessary information and skills to perform the job reasonably well after six months in the position.
Preferred Education and/or Experience: Two years related experience, High School Diploma or G.E.D.; or Associate’s degree; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Abilities, Knowledge, Skills:
- Ability to operate a sprayer truck and related equipment;
- Ability to identify noxious weeds, Johnson Grass, Bind Weed, Musk Thistle, Sericea Lespedeza and other weeds deemed necessary;
- Ability to reliably and predictably carry out duties;
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals;
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence;
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization;
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume;
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry;
- Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form;
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations;
- Ability to convey and receive detailed or important instructions and information to and from other workers and the general public;
- Knowledge of chemical formulas and application;
