FLSA: Non-Exempt, Part Time
Schedule: Up to 16 hours per week, Saturdays and Sundays are Required, Monday-Friday is flexible.
Hourly Rate: $16.00/hour
Position Summary:
The Community Engagement Educator is responsible for providing world-class onsite education and experiences to learners of all ages at Butterfly Pavilion, this includes providing exhibit interpretation for guests visiting the zoo, memorable and educational birthday party experiences for young guests, and adult and family onsite programs.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Lead all functions of birthday party programming including logistics and implementations
- Facilitate party activity and lead party guests to appropriate areas within Butterfly Pavilion Exhibits
- Maintain party schedules with other birthday party ambassadors
- Implement all policies written within the birthday part contract and FAQ
- Provide world-class customer service to all our part and exhibit guests and learners of all ages.
- Creating meaningful interaction between the exhibit animals and guests for a deeper and more thoughtful experience and to make connections between exhibit topic and daily life.
- Teaching engaging, interactive science education programs at Butterfly Pavilion and for the community in Birthday Parties, adult onsite programs, and other educational programs.
- Working alongside all team members to provide high quality education programs.
- Communicating with teachers and group leads.
- Safely transporting and using live animals to demonstrate science-based concepts to learners.
- Exhibiting strong behavior management skills in high energy environments.
- Working alongside all team members to provide high quality interpretation and complete project work to enhance exhibit experiences and interpretive content.
Additional Duties:
- Attend required branch and facility meetings and trainings
- USDA and Animal Handling training
- Crosstrain to work in additional areas as appropriate
- Completing supplemental required training.

Position Qualifications and Experience:
- One year's experience working with children aged 1 to 12 years old.
- An outgoing, friendly, enthusiastic, and creative personality.
- A strong interest in education and willingness to adhere to Butterfly Pavilion's education framework.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Highly dependable and flexible.
- Willing to handle animals (Additional training for this will occur on the job).
- Basic knowledge and interest in invertebrates, environmental science, conservation, and nature.
- Comfortable interacting with children and adults of all ages.
- Previous experience working with groups of school-aged children in informal settings.
- Comfortable interacting with learners of all ages.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Organized and flexible.
