The Financial Controller will play a crucial role in overseeing the financial operations of a $1 billion Architectural, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) firm. This individual will ensure the accuracy and integrity of the firm’s financial reporting, participate / own the budgeting and forecasting processes, and maintain compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations. The Controller will also provide financial insights to support strategic decision-making and leadership to optimize financial performance.
The role reports to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and will collaborate with our Finance FP&A function as well as cross-functional teams across the organization, including project management, business development, operations, and external auditors.

Key Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting: Oversee the preparation and presentation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Participate in the annual budgeting process, including long-term financial planning. Budgeting and forecasting will be led by the FP&A function.
- Internal Controls: Design, implement, and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with company policies.
- Project Accounting: Ensure accurate tracking of project costs, revenue recognition, and financial performance across all business segments, including architecture, engineering, and construction projects.
- Cash Flow Management: Manage the firm's liquidity, ensuring efficient cash flow forecasting and working capital management.
- Cost Management & Analysis: Conduct financial analysis to monitor costs and identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
- Compliance & Audits: Lead the preparation and coordination of external and internal audits, ensuring compliance with all financial regulations.
- Team Leadership: Manage and mentor the finance and project accounting teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
- Strategic Support: Provide financial insights to senior leadership on strategic initiatives, mergers & acquisitions, and other key business decisions.
- Tax Strategy: Oversee the preparation and filing of federal, state, and local tax returns. Collaborate with tax advisors to optimize tax strategies and minimize liabilities.
- ERP Systems Oversight: Manage the IFS ERP financial system and ensure it supports the needs of the growing organization, integrating with project management tools, and other enterprise systems.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA or MBA preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum 10 years of experience in accounting/financial management, preferably in the AEC industry or related sectors.
- Proven experience as a Financial Controller or similar role in a large-scale organization ($500M revenue).
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP and other regulatory environments.
- Experience in project accounting and cost management in the construction industry.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in ERP systems (experience with IFS is a plus).
- Advanced Excel skills for financial modeling and analysis.
- Familiarity with financial management software and reporting tools (OneStream is a plus).
- Soft Skills:
- Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to lead and develop a finance team.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
