What are the responsibilities and job description for the Driver – Low Boy position at C.R. Jackson, Inc.?
Position Summary: The Lowboy Driver’s primary function is to safely load, secure, and transport construction equipment to project locations. This position may assist with other project responsibilities and operating a variety of heavy equipment.
Essential Functions:
- Must follow all company policies and procedures and OSHA regulations to properly maintain a safe working environment at all times.
- Responsible for the safe loading, securing, and unloading of construction and paving equipment at work sites in a safe and timely manner over required route, obeying all traffic laws and observing all safety regulations.
- Must be knowledgeable of all DOT and FMCSA safety regulations for operating the truck and securing cargo.
- Must be familiar with the safe operation of construction and/or paving equipment.
- Responsible for daily pre-trip and post-trip checks on the truck for leaks, damage, proper fluid levels (oil, water, fuel) and ensuring mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
- Must accurately maintain daily vehicle mileage logs.
- Must obey all applicable laws and regulations while operating the truck.
- Responsible for notifying Shop Foreman if the truck needs maintenance or repair.
- Must carry a current medical examiners certificate while operating the truck.
- Perform additional duties and incidental work as directed.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Must be able to pass background and drug testing as required by federal and/or state transportation regulations.
- Ability to listen, understand, and follow directions.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to speak in a professional and courteous manner with customers and coworkers.
- Ability to remain flexible with work hours and work overtime as required for project completion.
- Ability to perform manual labor and outside work in all weather conditions including inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
- Must use Personal Protective Equipment and have a strong commitment to following safety procedures and protocols to prevent accidents and injuries.
Education and Experience:
Must possess a current Commercial Drivers’ License with a Class A or B endorsement; Driving record must meet liability insurance regulations; High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas.
- Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 80 pounds and push and/or pull 50-pound loads at a time.
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
- Must be able to work some Saturdays and at night, when needed.
