Job Title: Safety Manager
Job Summary:
The Safety Manager is responsible for implementing and overseeing the company’s safety program across all road construction sites and asphalt plant operations. This role ensures compliance with OSHA, SCDOT, and other regulatory standards, fosters a culture of safety, and works closely with project teams to minimize risks. The Safety Manager supervises Safety Technicians and reports directly to the Safety Director.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety Program Implementation & Compliance
- Enforce safety policies, procedures, and regulations across all job sites and asphalt plants.
- Conduct site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, SCDOT, and other federal, state, and local safety regulations.
- Develop and maintain Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and safety plans for projects and plant operations.
Training & Employee Engagement
- Conduct safety training for employees, including new hire orientations, toolbox talks, and specialized safety programs.
- Lead safety meetings and engage employees in proactive hazard identification and reporting.
- Work with supervisors and foremen to reinforce a culture of safety and accountability.
Incident Prevention & Response
- Investigate workplace accidents, near misses, and injuries to determine root causes and implement corrective measures.
- Maintain records of incidents, safety violations, and corrective actions.
- Coordinate with medical providers, insurance representatives, and regulatory agencies when needed.
Supervision & Leadership
- Supervise and mentor Safety Technicians, ensuring they are effectively supporting safety initiatives.
- Assign tasks, review reports, and provide guidance on safety practices.
- Support the Safety Director in developing company-wide safety strategies and initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, or a related field (preferred) or equivalent experience.
- Certifications: OSHA 30/OSHA 500, First Aid/CPR, and other relevant safety certifications preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction safety, preferably in road construction or asphalt plant operations.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with OSHA, DOT, and other regulatory standards applicable to construction and plant operations.
- Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to train, influence, and enforce safety standards effectively.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, walk on uneven surfaces, and lift up to 50 lbs.
Additional Requirements:
- Willingness to travel between job sites and asphalt plants as needed.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional nights and weekends.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
