Outpatient Medical Records Coder
Overview
Credentialed coding specialists needed to code records for reimbursement of services. Identify and abstract diagnoses and procedures and assign codes to patients' medical records, complete special reports, and ensure the validity of the completed record.
Requirements
Candidates should possess a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) credential from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
Duties
- Understands and follows AHIMA Code of Ethics and Best Practice Standards for client facility
- Extensive knowledge of ICD-9CM, CPT, MS-DRGs, APCs, and HCPCS Coding Guidelines.
- Experience with AHIMA standard coding conventions.
- Assign diagnostic and procedural codes for Outpatient data.
- Prepares work to be processed by gathering and organizing data, information, and documents.
- Maintains work operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes.
- Completes abstracts by recording information from the patient record in the prescribed categories.
- Maintains quality results by following and enforcing standards.
- Protects hospitals value by keeping medical records information confidential.
- Accomplishes medical records and hospital mission by completing related results as needed.
