What are the responsibilities and job description for the Temporary ELISS Grant Contract Counselor position at Cabarrus County Schools?
General Definition of Work
This is a grant funded position through the ELISS grant through June 30, 2025. Thereafter, the district may explore alternative avenues of continuing to support this role to be determined by the budget process during that school year. The ELISS Counselorwill focus on social emotional learning, trauma-informed responses, academic advising, and social emotional support with students and families by:
- Promoting student confidence and competence in addressing emotional regulation/self- regulation
- Promoting student capacity positive mood management
- Promoting student social awareness
- Promoting student identification of supportive interpersonal relationships
- Promoting student reported sense of belonging
- Promote teacher’s positive perception of social emotional competence of select and identified students
- Providing technical assistance to identified schools in the development of effective strategies to improve aspects of community and school-based mental health services to students
- Collect and analyze relevant school level evaluation data related to the ELISS program, including but not limited to the mental health database
- Provide ongoing supportive consultation to relevant staff in academic and social- emotional advisement
- Offering consultation to school staff to promote social-emotional well-being
- Developing strategies for effective family engagement and involvement

Classified Hourly rate based on North Carolina Salary Schedule

ELISS Grant Program Coordinator (directly)
Essential Functions
- Provide social emotional supports to students in the program
- Provide direct instruction related to social emotional learning
- Equipped in trauma-informed behavior management
- Collaborate with educators, clinicians, and administrators
- Consult with parents and community supports as needed
- Collect grant related documentation and evaluation data
- Support and serve grant writing staff for continuation applications and presentations
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrate effectiveness in providing evidence-based interventions
- Thorough knowledge of implementing social emotional learning
- Thorough knowledge of collecting and analyzing data
- Ability to organize calendars, documentation, & action plans, to keep communication & implementation strong (knowledge of Google Drive & Microsoft Outlook).
- Self-starter capable of working in assigned schools with a low level of daily management and a very high degree of accountability.
- Maintain meaningful professional relationships with students that are navigating multiple challenges will be essential. Must have training in mental health support, social-emotional learning, and resiliency OR be willing to successfully receive such training
Education and Experience
Master’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology required
Licensure in School Counseling, School Social Work, School Psychology. LCMHS, LCSW, LPA preferred
Physical Requirements
- This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force.
- Work regularly requires speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions, frequently requires sitting and occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting.
- Work has standard vision requirements.
- Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
- Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
- Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities.
- Work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
- Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
