Hours : 8 : 00 - 5 : 00 Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week (may include some evening and weekend work)

Funding period : through 8 / 31 / 2027

The Certified Peer Support Specialist will provide comprehensive peer support services to individuals with a substance use and / or mental health diagnosis, including people who are actively using substances. The Specialist will serve on a multi-disciplinary team and will focus on providing support and connections to care in a variety of settings based on client needs. Settings could include the health department, syringe service program, jail, MOUD clinic, and community-based organizations.

Primary Responsibilities :

  • Provide case management
  • Conduct intakes and enrollment activities
  • Develop care plans for clients
  • Assist team with daily data tracking and monthly reports
  • Document appropriately in electronic health record
  • Assist with client needs and goals
  • Accompany clients to meetings and participate in meetings of community groups to advocate for client needs

Education / Experience : High school diploma or equivalent required. Certified as a Peer Support Specialist or currently working toward certification as a Peer Support Specialist by the governing agency required. Prior case management experience preferred.

License : Valid NC driver's license

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :

  • Ability to provide a non-judgmental environment while treating others with compassion, respect, and kindness
  • Possess ability to maintain integrity reflected through being trustworthy, genuine, and self-aware
  • Must be able to establish safe, honest relationships that honor clear and healthy professional boundaries
  • Must have computer skills, good communication skills, and be proficient in motivational interviewing as well as active listening
  • Ability to be flexible, work independently, work as part of a team, and possess good decision-making skills
  • Must be comfortable discussing social, substance-related, and other harm reduction issues and experiences in a professional and non-judgmental manner
  • General knowledge of harm reduction principles and syringe exchange laws
