Job Summary
Responsible for overseeing and optimizing the Finishing process, ensuring high-quality finishes, and meeting customer specifications. Work closely with the production and quality control teams to ensure the successful execution of the painting and finishing processes from start to finish. Implements process improvements to meet quality standards, perform feasibility studies, maintain supplier relationships, and solves problems.

Principal Functional Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve the painting processes for cabinets, ensuring efficiency, consistency, and quality across all production runs. Identify and lead projects, and project teams, to resolve manufacturing issues to meet business goals and objectives.
- Ensure that products meet the highest standards for finish quality, including color consistency, smoothness, durability, and resistance to wear. Inspect finished products for defects such as uneven coats, drips, or scratches.
- Quickly identify and address any issues in the painting process, such as paint adhesion problems, uneven application, or drying/curing issues. Provide solutions to reduce defects and maintain production schedules.
- Document all painting processes, materials, and quality control procedures. Maintain records of paint batch approvals, test results, and any changes to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Collaborate with operations and suppliers to ensure that the painting process aligns with overall production goals. Provide technical support for the setup and maintenance of paint booths and other equipment.
- Provide training to production staff on proper painting techniques, equipment usage, and safety procedures. Encourage continuous learning and knowledge sharing within the team.
- Identify and implement improvements to production processes and equipment to improve quality and reduce production costs.
- Complete engineering projects assigned to resolve technical issues throughout the facility.
- Develop, and/or support the specification and installation of capital equipment.
- Provide daily shop floor support in the areas of machine operation, set-up, troubleshooting, safety, process improvements and ergonomics.
- Work with personnel throughout Cabinetworks Group to implement the best company-wide practices which can include product and equipment design, operation improvements, data output and display improvements, safety upgrades, etc.
- Drive electrical and electronic system standardization throughout the facility.
- Train and develop personnel in electrical fields with respect to codes and regulations.
- Design, develop and test various tools, machinery and equipment for improving manufacturing methods.
- Actively promote and participate in the continuous improvement program, lean manufacturing, and Six Sigma process.
- Participate in technical discussions with suppliers.
- Maintain knowledge of current trends in field and trade journals.
- Ability to travel up to 10% including international.
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Chemical Engineering; or a related technical field or equivalent experience in a similar role.
- 3-5 years engineering experience in a technical role related to finishing and painting processes in a high volume, fast paced manufacturing environment.
- Excellent organizational skills, including ability to multi-task and prioritize workload.
- Excellent technical skills in manufacturing processes and methods.
- Strong communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and explain complex technical details to non-technical staff.
- Expertise in surface preparation, application techniques, and curing methods for cabinet finishes.
- Strong knowledge of coating systems, including solvent-based, water-based, and powder coatings.
- Proficiency in process optimization and quality control methods.
- Familiarity with painting equipment and technology, including spray booths, HVLP (High Volume Low Pressure) sprayers, and automated painting systems.
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Lean Manufacturing knowledge.
- Exposure to systems controls such as ISO 140001.
This role operates in a plant environment. Physical requirements include:
- Ability to stand for long periods.
- Computer Use: Proficient use of a computer, including typing, mouse manipulation, and viewing a computer screen for extended periods is essential.
- Multitasking: The ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize work effectively, which may require mental agility and adaptability.
- Physical demands include required lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling weight up to 20 lbs. Occasionally up to 50 lbs.
