What you'll do as a Laborer
All phases of underground construction include but are not limited to : Loading, driving, delivery, digging, removal and placement of various types, sizes and weight of construction materials and equipmentHand dig using shovel, mechanical toolsInstall and maintenance of underground telecommunications cablingClimb into and out of equipment (trucks, cars, backhoes, trenchers, etc.)Operate or work around heavy equipment and machineryWorking in congested or remote areasMaintain visual and audible contact with other crewman and all moving or stationary persons / vehicles / objects to ensure safe coordination of movementPerform general construction work under direction of Foreman / SupervisorFlagging, property or worksite restorationMaintain safe working habits / conditions according to all regulations, procedures and policiesOther duties as assignedWhat you'll need
To be 18 years of age or olderAuthorization to work in the United States for this companyHigh School Diploma, GED equivalent, or relevant work experienceA valid driver's licenseYou are at least 18 years oldYou are authorized to work in the United States for this companyYou are able to pass a DOT physical exam, resulting in a valid medical cardYou have a valid standard Driver's License or Class A Commercial Driver's LicenseYou have previous construction experience, preferably in the telecommunications industryYou have knowledge of established aerial cable installation procedures and techniquesYou are able to climb telephone poles and work in a bucket truck and work aloft and climb poles up to 40 feetYou are able to perform all duties in telecommunications construction (such as; pole transfers, maintenance builds, new build, cable installation, over lash, and strand construction)You are able to lift / carry 50 lbs regularly and up to 75 lbs as needed with or without assistanceYou are able to work over-time; after hours; on weekends, for emergencies or on-callYou are able to maintain a safe work environmentYou are able to work in all weather conditionsYou are able to travel when travel is requiredYou may have experience splicing of active & passive equipmentApplicants are required to pass all company drug testing, submit to a background check and adhere to all OSHA, state, city / municipality safety requirements and training provided by the company as required. To be able to pass a DOT physical exam, resulting in a valid medical card
Basic knowledge of and ability to operate various types of utility trucks and equipment in a safe mannerBasic knowledge of and ability to hand tools and equipment in a safe mannerAbility to communicate effectively with customers, employees, etcRegular and timely attendance is an essential function of this positionPhysical abilities & exposures
Must be able to perform the above for at least 8 hours per day 5 days per week. May be required to work over-time; after hours; on weekends, for emergencies or on-callDuties outlined in this position will require the employee to stand, crouch, sit, bend, use hands and fingers to handle or feel as well as reaching with hands and arms to spaces both high and low. The employee will be standing, walking, climbing, balancing, crawling, crouching, lifting, holding or stooping while on shiftAbility to work while wearing safety boots, safety glasses and hardhatAbility to work in adverse weather conditions which can include but is not limited to : extreme heat and cold temperatures; inclement weather such as wind, rain, snow, sleet and dust as well as adverse driving conditions including wet roads, icy roads, and fogEmployees in this job classification may be exposed to dust, fumes or other airborne pathogensMust be able to lift / carry 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 LBS as needed with or without assistancePay Range : $23 - $25 per hour
