The Computer Science Technologist Intern position resides in the Wired Technologiesdepartment at CableLabs. This department is focused on the innovation and development of new Wired accesses technologies for our Cable Operator members. The Wired Technologies department has a significant impact on CableLabs’ goals to provide outstanding support and innovation to Member Operator companies so that they can deploy the best and most efficient technology possible in their networks, as well as providing forward looking technology options for future directions they might take to enhance their network providing more capacity and improved user experiences.
Why This Role Is Exciting
The area of focus for this position is to create software to manage DOCSIS cable broadband networks. This will have a significant impact on CableLabs’ ability to collect crucial data relevant to lab set up and testing. You will get to collaborate and learn from top experts in the Broadband Networks field and also produce your own contribution that will help them in their projects.
What You’ll Do
- Create data collection software for DOCSIS networks, including Cores, RPDs, Fiber Nodes, Amplifiers, and modems.
- Implement a “data lake” to store all the data and tools to manage that data lake.
- Integrate technologies including SNMP and Kafka (or other streaming technologies) to support both legacy and new DOCSIS platforms.
- Generate GUIs to display the status of both data collection and the data itself, as well as for speed tests run on network equipment.
- Develop tools to manage the data itself including parsing and archiving, as well as data retrieval.
Qualifications
What Is a Must Have:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering.
- Identify the required skills to perform the job duties
- Python and derivative coding skills to control lab equipment and also GUI development and test development
- Linux, networking and web coding experience
- Proven well architected and document code that is easy to read and can be scaled without much difficulty.
- Clear English reading and writing skills
- Open to exchange ideas, try out or prototype new concepts.
- Amicable and friendly individual willing to collaborate in teams or individually interchangeably.
- Ability to lift 30lbs without difficulty (needed to potentially move instruments around)
What Will Set You Apart:
- Unix, Python and Go programming.
- Linux server management, including installing and configuring Ubuntu. Also applies to Raspberry Pi solutions.
- JavaScript and web programming.
- SNMP, Net-SNMP, Apache Kafka.
- Kubernetes and other container technologies.
