The L4S Congestion Control Research Intern position resides in the Next Generation Systems department at CableLabs. This department researches and develops technologies that shape the networks of the future. Our team plays a crucial role in exploring new technologies.

The L4S Congestion Control Research Intern will work directly with senior technologists, researchers, and executives, gain expertise in IP networking, network performance, access network technologies and architectures and have an opportunity to present the results of the work to senior technical staff.
What You’ll Do
- Develop a network simulation topology in ns3 involving endpoints and network nodes
- Plan and configure application traffic models to explore network performance characteristics
- Implement modifications to the ns3 dual-q-coupled-aqm queue discipline to explore alternative congestion detection methods
- Conduct experiments to evaluate the performance of alternative congestion detection methods
Qualifications
What Is a Must Have
- Currently enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science or related discipline
- Familiar with congestion control concepts and L4S
- Familiar with ns3
- Possessing a solid understanding of IP networking
- Comfortable using the linux command line and familiar with linux networking tools
- Proficient in Python & C
- Detail-oriented and possess organizational skills
- Capable of producing visualizations and written reports of experimental results
What Will Set You Apart
- Demonstrated research interest in transport protocol design, congestion control, medium access control protocols, and network performance.
- Strong knowledge of Internet architecture concepts
