The Network Digital Twin Security Intern position resides in the Security and Privacy Technologies department at CableLabs. The Security & Privacy Technologies team drives innovation toward a unified threat-resistant networking environment for wired and mobile experiences. Our team plays a crucial role in benefiting CableLabs’ members, the cable industry, and cable ecosystem subscribers. We make important contributions in IoT security, DOCSIS security, wireless/5G security, anti-DDoS methods, AI security, quantum security and more.

We are offering a unique internship opportunity to explore the forefront of this evolution—specifically, the security of digital twin networks where AI-driven decisions enhance and optimize network operations.
In this role, you will explore how digital twins are shaping future network infrastructures, modeling realistic simulations using tools like NS3 to replicate complex network environments. Your will contribute to the understanding and reinforcing of cybersecurity postures of these virtual replicas, which are increasingly critical as they enable predictive maintenance, real-time analytics, and automated decision-making processes, often guided by artificial intelligence.
Additionally, you will contribute to anti-DDoS solutions. The intern will have the opportunity to work closely with the CableLabs Security and Privacy team and collaborate with CableLabs member companies on next-generation anti-DDoS software solutions and advancing anti-DDoS methodologies. This role will also involve collaborating on publications aimed at disseminating findings related to anti-DDoS initiatives.
What You’ll Do
- Collaborate closely with the Security and Privacy Technologies team to enhance network security.
- Explore and assess the security aspects of future networks where AI-driven decisions play a pivotal role.
- Utilize network simulation tools like NS3 to model network environments and operations.
- Analyze potential vulnerabilities and threats within AI-enhanced networks.
- Contribute to developing strategies to mitigate security risks in digital twin networks.
- Improve and develop client- and server-side anti-DDoS software technologies.
- Collaborate with team members to co-author technical papers/publications on anti-DDoS technologies.
Qualifications
What Is a Must Have
- Currently pursuing a bachelors or masters degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, Information Management, or Mathematics
- Strong understanding of network security principles and practices
- Experience with network simulation tools, preferably NS3
- Ability to identify and analyze cybersecurity vulnerabilities
- Work with Python-based client- and server software
- Evaluate the performance of developed systems through unit and real-world testing
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities
What Will Set You Apart
- Strong understanding of cryptographic principles and protocols.
- Knowledge of secure systems design and implementation.
- A strong understand of Internet (TCP/IP) networking and protocols.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Familiarity with AI technologies and their applications in network operations
- Knowledge of software-defined networking (SDN)
