The Purchasing Agent acts under the authority of the Sr Supply Chain Manager and is responsible for the effective management of Planning and Replenishment for assigned Suppliers and/or Distribution Centers. The Purchasing Agent is responsible for assisting with executing, and monitoring strategic inventory initiatives. The Purchasing Agent will be responsible primarily for driving favorable inventory/supplier performance KPI’s, creating replenishment strategies that achieve desired service levels in assigned Distribution Centers, and anticipating future needs. As well as assist with invoice/po reconciliations, PO follow up and other duties as needed.
Organizational Relationships
- Resides on the Supply Chain team and acts under the authority of the Sr Supply Chain Manager
- Will be a key interface with internal and external partners such as the Sales Team, Finance, Operations and Vendors
Job Responsibilities
- Own the inventory planning and replenishment for assigned suppliers and/or distribution centers
- Work directly with Sales and other departments to effectively plan for new promotions, new products and customer conversions
- Assist with invoice/PO reconciliations
- Utilizes metrics, KPI’s and reporting to monitor and drive performance for assigned distribution centers and escalating when needed
- Analyze inventories to determine how to increase inventory turns and achieve E&O Initiatives
- Following up on and expediting purchase orders or transfers
- Presenting reports and data analytics to management
- Identifies and resolves low to out-of-stock issues, focusing on minimizing shortage occurrences through analysis of data and review of safety stock levels
- Conduct vendor performance reviews
- Interview vendors to examine and learn about products, services, and prices
- Out-of-stock root cause analysis
Qualifications (Mandatory)
- High School graduate or equivalent minimum
- 2-4 years of Distribution Planning and/or Purchasing experience
- Microsoft Office proficiency
- Current/Prior use of automated MRP, DRP, ERP systems
QUALIFICATIONS (PREFERRED):
- Four-year college degree / industry knowledge (Supply Chain, Demand Planning, purchasing etc.,)
- Experience in a Distribution Planning & Replenishment environment
- Ability to analyze and interpret financial operating reports
- Experience in oil and lubricants or manufacturing
- Exposure to advanced sales & logistics principles
- Demonstrated communications skills, both written and oral
