CATERING and EVENTS MANAGER
Summary
Café Momentum Pittsburgh is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and detail-oriented Catering and Events Manager to lead and grow our catering and events program. The Catering and Events Manager will oversee all aspects of catering and events operations, including planning, execution, and customer service, while supporting Café Momentum’s mission of providing workforce development for justice-impacted youth between 15 and 19 years of age.
The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, a proven track record in event planning and revenue growth, and a passion for working in a mission-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
Event Management
- Oversee all aspects of events, including buyouts, off-site catering, community engagements, monthly in-house events, fundraising initiatives, and donor appreciation activities; manage the entire process from initial inquiry to successful execution, encompassing menu planning, staffing, logistics, and seamless client and guest communication.
- Develop event proposals and contracts, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Coordinate with FOH and BOH teams to ensure seamless execution of all events.
- Serve as the on-site lead during catering and special events to ensure they align with Café Momentum’s high standards of quality and professionalism.
- Oversee event setup and breakdown, ensuring cleanliness, organization, and compliance with safety standards.
- Work closely with the senior management and marketing team to develop and implement promotional campaigns for catering services, buy-out’s, special and community events, monthly and community events.
Sales & Client Relations
- Cultivate strong relationships with clients to promote repeat business and referrals.
- Proactively identify and pursue new catering opportunities to grow revenue.
- Develop and implement a structured customer feedback program to ensure quality assurance.
- Maintain clear and consistent communication with clients, addressing concerns promptly and professionally.
Revenue Growth & Strategy
- Develop and implement strategies to achieve and exceed annual catering revenue targets.
- Analyze sales and performance metrics to identify growth opportunities.
- Monitor and control catering costs to maintain profitability while delivering exceptional client experiences.
Operational Oversight
- Develop and maintain efficient catering processes, including scheduling, staffing, and resource allocation.
- Oversee catering inventory, ensuring adequate supplies for upcoming events.
- Collaborate with the Chef de Cuisine to develop customized menus that meet client needs and align with Café Momentum’s culinary standards.
- Work closely with the Restaurant General Manager to integrate catering and event programming into the broader restaurant operations.
Intern Engagement and Training
- Train and mentor interns, fostering a culture of professionalism, collaboration, and respect.
- In collaboration with the General Manager, schedule and manage interns to ensure proper coverage for events and catering operations.
- Provide feedback and performance assessments for interns, supporting their professional development.
Qualifications & Skills Required
- Proven experience in catering, event planning, or hospitality management.
- Proficiency in Google Suite and Microsoft Office with familiarity with Toast POS, XtraChef, and TripleSeat systems.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in mission-driven or nonprofit organizations; commitment to mentoring youth and supporting their professional development.
- Creative problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to challenges.
Work Schedule:
- Full-time position with flexible hours based on catering commitments and event schedules; mornings, evenings and weekends as needed.
Salary & Benefits:
- Salary: $53,750–$64,000 annually, commensurate with experience.

Working Environment: This is a full-time, on-site position requiring flexibility to work in diverse settings, including restaurant environments, outdoor venues, community spaces (homes, businesses, etc.). The role also involves the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, printers, scanners, projectors, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
The physical demands of the position include:
- Regularly speaking and hearing to communicate effectively.
- Frequently standing for up to six continuous hours, with occasional stooping, squatting, kneeling, and bending.
- Performing movements such as bending from the waist, stretching, twisting, and turning.
- Lifting, carrying, and supporting up to 40 pounds from shoulder level to overhead.
- Performing repetitive and non-repetitive motions with hands and wrists.
- Handling both caustic and non-caustic chemicals safely.
- Working in hot and/or humid environments as needed.
