What are the responsibilities and job description for the Wine Buyer position at Cafe Stella?
We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Wine Buyer/Sommelier to lead our wine program, manage vendor relationships, and deliver an exceptional guest experience rooted in wine education and hospitality.
Responsibilities:

Curate and maintain a dynamic wine list that complements our seasonal French-inspired menu

Lead all wine purchasing, manage inventory, and maintain accurate cost control

Develop and maintain relationships with distributors, wineries, and producers

Conduct staff wine training and tastings to ensure strong product knowledge and service excellence

Offer personalized wine recommendations to guests and provide tableside wine service

Organize and host wine-focused events, tastings, and seasonal pairings

Monitor wine trends and customer preferences to ensure a fresh, engaging selection

Collaborate with the culinary team and management on pairings and menu alignment

Ensure proper wine storage, handling, and service standards
Qualifications:

4 years of experience in wine buying or sommelier roles in upscale dining

Deep knowledge of French and European wines, as well as emerging wine regions

Strong vendor negotiation and inventory management skills

Certified Sommelier (CMS, WSET, or equivalent) preferred

Excellent communication and guest service skills

Team-oriented with a hands-on leadership approach

Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
