Substance Use Disorder Program Coordinator
Reports to the Director of Behavioral Health

Background: Cahaba Medical Care Foundation is a community health center providing medical, pharmacy, dental, and behavioral health services to diverse underserved communities in Jefferson, Bibb, Perry, Chilton, and Wilcox counties. Purpose: The Substance Use Disorder Program Coordinator serves as the Clinical Director of the Substance Use Program, and can oversee, implement, and coordinate all medication-assisted treatment services at the health center. This position reports to the Director of Behavioral.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Program oversight & administration
- Responsible for daily management and performance of the medication-assisted treatment and substance use disorder (SUD) initiatives of the behavioral health department.
- Communication, coordination, and planning within the Substance Use Disorder Program and between all other departments relating to substance use disorder services.
- Responsible for reviewing referrals to the Substance Use Disorder program (screening for acuity, coordinating with staff to ensure insurance authorization and scheduling in a timely fashion).
Patient care
- Work as a direct care outpatient behavioral health clinician
- Provide initial assessment, crisis intervention, psychoeducation, and/or short-term intervention for patients.
- Triage patient needs and arrange appropriate services for patients.
- Record assessments and interventions in patient medical records according to established documentation standards. Develop and implement treatment plans based on presenting problems and clinical diagnosis.
Quality improvement & compliance
- Maintain Department of Public Health and NCQA PCMH, Joint Commission, and Department of Mental Health requirements for services.
- Maintain registries related to patients within the SUD program to ensure quality metrics and patient care standards are maintained.
- Conduct monthly SUD chart peer reviews to ensure that clinicians are meeting clinical documentation standards and compliance with CMS regulations.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- LICSW
- 5-7 years experience in direct patient care and mental health/ substance use disorder administration.
- Prior department of mental health experience is required.
- Proven ability to shift gears at the moment, restructure staffing, scheduling, and billing needs to balance volume
- Athena and Google Apps experience preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and analytical skills are required.
- Excellent ability to collaborate with clinicians and staff at all levels.
