Overview

The Cal Alumni Association (CAA) is a mid-sized, dynamic, and multifaceted nonprofit organization committed to providing programs and services that keep Cal alumni of all ages and interests connected to UC Berkeley and to each other. Our programs include an award-winning magazine, scholarships, alumni career services, events, family camp, travel, and more.

The Director, Annual Giving is responsible for cultivating and growing annual giving for the Cal Alumni Association, building our base of donors, and increasing their level of financial support. The Director will lead a year-round, comprehensive cultivation and solicitation program. The ideal candidate is a skilled manager, communicator, and leader who is passionate about our mission, and will represent CAA with professionalism and integrity. This person will bring proven experience in fundraising, stewarding and retaining donors, and managing donor communications, events, and appeals.

This position reports to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the development and implementation of fundraising strategies and initiatives to meet or exceed assigned fundraising and net revenue goals.
  • Oversees the donor stewardship plan designed to retain donors and create engaging relationships.
  • Leads and manages the production of direct mail, telemarketing, and e-solicitation campaigns to acquire, reactivate and retain donors.
  • Develop and manage the Annual Giving budget.
  • Manages and evaluates vendors.
  • In collaboration with the CAA Marketing department, develop annual giving marketing materials, including brochures, case statements, and other collateral materials.
  • Research and incorporate annual fund best practices.
  • Execute complex, multi-channel annual giving communications program.
  • Own all annual giving data processes for direct mail, email, and telemarketing.
  • Track and report on CAA’s leadership giving donor society activity and execute acknowledgment outreach.
  • Evaluate, analyze and report on the progress toward goals, effectiveness of fundraising strategies, appeals, and programs, and making and implementing strategic and operational recommendations.
  • Attend and assist in developing and executing Department and CAA events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in business, communications, public relations, or related field.
  • Three to five years of progressive leadership and fundraising experience, with knowledge of annual fundraising campaigns and gift processing.
  • Proven track record of planning and initiating successful fundraising strategies.
  • Solid supervisory, organizational, administrative, and project management skills including the ability to create and implement a program plan, and develop and manage a budget with net revenue responsibility.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience developing fundraising marketing collateral and messaging for campaigns with the ability to write on-brand, engaging content, and ensure brand consistency; strong editing and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to plan, execute, and measure the impact of appeals and programs.
  • Ability to manage and evaluate external vendors.
  • Ability to work with confidential and sensitive information, with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google applications;
  • Experience in managing databases and using fundraising software; ability to learn and use complex databases.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends in addition to work schedule.
  • Must submit to Consumer and Motor Vehicle reports, and FBI / DOJ fingerprint background investigations.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification, degree, or similar qualification in fundraising
  • Experience coordinating and implementing donor attended events
  • Familiarity with CADS (Cal Advancement Data System)
  • Familiarity with the University of California system, and the Berkeley campus.
  • Salary and Benefits

    This position is classified as an at-will, full-time, exempt position with a pay range of $80,000-$100,000 annualized. This position is located in Berkeley, CA.
