ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY
SUMMARY: Join an exciting research project aimed at enhancing the accessibility of dairy extrusion technologies. We are seeking motivated graduate students from the Nutrition and Food Science Department. The student is expected to has a strong knowledge in food engineering and food chemistry. We are looking for students who are passionate about learning dairy extrusion processes and their benefits. This is a unique opportunity to work with expert faculty and engage with communities.
ABOUT US: As the largest employer of students on the Cal Poly Pomona campus, the Enterprises offers valuable work experience and hands-on training to approximately 1,500 Cal Poly Pomona students each year. The Enterprises offers positions in various fields; whether it is in the area of technology, science, retail, culinary arts, hospitality1500 management, leadership or research grants, these student employees participate in Cal Poly Pomona's learn-by-doing philosophy and acquire practical skills in their designated field of study.
The Enterprises also contributes operating support to nearly 1,100 Enterprises and scholarship programs every year, including Bronco Athletics and the Pepsi Scholarship. In addition, the Enterprises administers grants and contracts, contributes to campus security, and supports several university publications. The Enterprises contributes over $1 million annually to Cal Poly Pomona.
SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety):
- Participate in in-person hands-on training sessions focused on extrusion technologies especially low moisture extrudate
- Conduct experiments to extrude cheese products into snacks with high density of nutrients,
- Analyze the obtained data and prepare reports for our collaborator from food industry
- Engage in research and discussions to complete the project goals.
- Follow any special instructions from the PI’s.
- Clean and polish the kitchen and utensils used in the training sessions. Keep the pantry counter area as clean and organized a possible.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Student must be currently enrolled as a full-time graduate student in the Nutrition and Food Science Department at Cal Poly Pomona
- Strong interest in food engineering especially extrusion technologies
- Willing to work with a group in-person
- Excellent communication skills.
PREFFERED
- Bachelor's degree in food science and/or any related fields.
- Lab work experience in food processing and engineering.
