California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) – a pioneering institution dedicated to fostering creativity and innovation in both visual and performing arts – seeks an exceptional leader as its Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer (VP & CHRO).
The ideal candidate will bring strategic vision, collaborative leadership, and a deep understanding of higher education HR operations to this pivotal role. They will collaborate closely with academic and administrative leaders across the Institute, providing overall guidance on HR policies and practices that support CalArts' unique mission.
Key Responsibilities:
- Talent management and retention, including succession planning and employee development programs
- Compensation and benefits, including salary and benefits negotiations with faculty and staff
- Performance management, employee relations, and labor issues
- HRIS administration, compliance, and policy implementation
- Union leadership and collective bargaining agreement oversight
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree with advanced degree preferred
- SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) or SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) credentials
- Extensive higher education experience, including familiarity with California-specific labor and employment requirements
- Labor laws, regulations, and union operations knowledge, with ability to build and maintain positive relationships with union representatives and internal stakeholders
What We Offer:
- $200,000-$250,000 annual salary range, plus moving allowance and signing bonus
