Job Description and Duties

MAINTENANCE AIDE ($16.92 - $19.77) - CENTRAL VALLEY DISTRICT/CALAVERAS SECTOR (CALAVERAS COUNTY)

The Maintenance Aide reporting location is at Calaveras Big Trees State Park in Arnold, CA.

This position will work under the direction of the Park Maintenance Supervisor or under the lead of a Park Maintenance Worker I at Calaveras Big Tress State Park.

Maintenance Aides perform routine housekeeping and facility maintenance duties to keep the area and facilities, as assigned, in good repair. Maintenance Aides demonstrate the ability to follow directions; compute simple mathematical calculations; learn work procedures, park rules, and regulations; perform varied manual tasks; meet the public successfully; and take corrective action. Must be able to routinely lift 45 pounds and have ability to work cooperatively and effectively with co-workers. Experience in janitorial or housekeeping tasks is desired but not required. Position may assist Park Maintenance Workers in performing a variety of skilled maintenance projects.

This position requires a valid Class C driver’s license. You must answer the questions addressing your driver’s license on your application. Ensure you provide your driver’s license number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions on your application.

The Maintenance Aide will be required to work, weekends, holidays, and odd or irregular hours. Full time and part time positions available.

Essential Functions

Percentage Task

30% Facility House Keeping:

  • Cleaning and maintenance of State Facilities
  • Cleaning and disinfecting restrooms, showers, campgrounds, day use areas, picnic sites
  • These activities include but are not limited to scrubbing and disinfecting toilets and showers, cleaning floor drain traps, plunging clogged toilets, cleaning feces, vomit, or other bodily fluids from facilities, cleaning and maintaining chemical toilets, and re stocking paper product and soap.

30% Refuse Removal

  • Emptying trash cans, installing new trash bags, cleaning trash cans, walking and picking up litter, disposing of waste in dumpsters and other refuse cleaning activities. which may require lifting up to 45 pounds frequently to a height of 4 feet.

20% Special Events

  • Preparing State Facilities for Special Events to include pre and post event cleaning and set-up
  • Sweeping, waxing, mopping floors and decks, emptying trash cans
  • Set up and removal of tables, chairs, and food prep areas.

10% Facility Maintenance and Groundskeeping

  • Cleaning Campsites, bear lockers, picnic tables, and fire rings,
  • Clearing trails, trimming hedges, mowing grass, vegetation removal, with the use of hand tools
  • Assists in the maintenance, repair and construction of a wide variety of park structures, utility systems, roads or other facilities

5% Administration / Training / Safety:

  • Maintains cooperative relationships with public, volunteers, co-workers, other agencies, etc
  • Complete time sheet and other records per DPR policy.
  • Completes DPR accounting forms accurately, completely and on time per policy
  • Attends and participates in tailgate safety meetings and training sessions.
  • Maintains and wears appropriate safety equipment for tasks.
  • Carries out assignments and maintains work areas in accordance with established safe job practices.
  • Wears seat belts during vehicle use.
  • Reports and/or immediately corrects any problem posing a hazard to customers or employees.
  • Reports all injuries, even minor ones, to on-duty supervisors as soon as possible.

Typical Working Conditions

Work Environment:

  • Work indoors or outdoors in various types of weather; work in unpleasant conditions (e.g., bad weather)
  • May walk long distances (up to two miles) and stand for long periods (up to four hours)
  • Perform light manual labor (e.g. lifting, carrying, loading up to 45 pounds)
  • Shovel snow for long periods of time
  • Repetitive movement, walking, standing, twisting, or lifting objects
  • May walk across uneven terrain in both uphill and downhill conditions to perform the duties associated with the job

Special Requirements

If required to operate a vehicle, possession of a valid driver's license and the ability to operate the vehicle safely will be required.
