Description
At Caldera, we believe in the power of creativity. Our mission is to inspire and support youth from underserved rural and urban communities by awakening the potential of their creative voice. We do this through a unique fusion of art, environment and mentorship. Our Youth Program provides students from Portland and Central Oregon with long-term relationships with caring adults, which nurtures individual creativity, beginning in sixth grade and continuing into young adulthood.
As part of Caldera's summer learning team, you will gain leadership, communication, and collaboration skills and unparalleled resiliency while building meaningful relationships with young learners and adults. You'll have daily opportunities to expand your own creativity and sense of adventure, upheld in a supportive community full of networking opportunities. During your time off, you'll be centrally located in Oregon's playground for play in the Cascade Mountains, sampling local flavor, or simply relaxing on Caldera's 116 acres of awe-inspiring property.

Compensation :
- Salary / Rate of Pay : $180 / day with current Wilderness First Aid certification, $190 / day with current EMT certification, $200 / day with current RN certification, and 1% increase for each year of experience working at Camp Caldera (not to exceed 7%)
- Training Salary / Rate of Pay : $50-75 / day
- Room and board provided during days with programming; room only during non-programming days. A light dinner will be provided on staff arrival days. Brunch is served on the last day of each session.
Location : This is a seasonal position at our Arts Center- 31500 Blue Lake Drive, Sisters, OR 97756 (transportation not provided).

Position overview :
The Health Director is responsible for providing medical and preventative care to all campers and staff during training and camp sessions.

Specific Responsibilities :
Submit standing orders to local physician for approval and clarification on best treatment protocolsRespond immediately to accidents or emergenciesEvaluate camper and staff injuries and illnesses, treat or refer for transport to off-site medical facilities, as appropriateIdentify health problems serious enough to require a physician's attention and initiate appropriate next stepsMaintain log of Health Center visits and produce detailed accident / incident reports, provide to supervisor as requestedMaintain and manage distribution of First Aid supplies in the Health Center and all areas of campSafeguard campers' prescription medicationsAdminister medications (along with additional adult at all times) at prescribed doses and hoursComplete necessary insurance formsProvide training for staff in preventative health care both for themselves and campers, rules and guidelines for the health care program, and a youth worker's approach to the treatment of illnesses and injuriesReview Health History Forms prior to camper arrival and provide a written list of campers with minor to major health issues (i.e. severe allergies, asthma, anxiety medications, etc.) to Camp ManagerCommunicate with parents and guardians about camper health as neededProduce written list of camper / staff dietary restrictions and provide to Camp ManagerConduct camper and staff intakesMaintain regular clinic hours for campers' treatment, and be on-call during all other hoursAlert supervisor to relevant camper issuesPrepare and maintain first-aid kits for daily outingsMonitor camp procedures, facilities, and conditions and communicate any needed modifications to maintain healthful conditions at campMake nurse's cabin available to campers who need an alternate sleeping arrangement due to illness, behavioral issues, etc.Other duties as assignedGeneral Responsibilities :
Serve as mandatory reporter, working with Youth Impact Manager to report instances or suspicion of child abuse. Caldera has a zero tolerance policy around child abuse, and any negligence will result in immediate dismissalPromote program understanding and involvement through Caldera's goals and agreements, participation agreement, and responsibility processActively participate in all aspects of camp life including : camper orientation, community meetings, evening activities, campfire, free time, etc.Model appropriate camper behavior at all timesPerform duties with consistency and integritySet and respect personal boundaries while acting as mentors, guides, and allies to campersOversee health and safety of charges in fire drills and emergency proceduresMaintain cleanliness of living and common areas and help with clean-up at the end of each sessionCommunication with parents / guardians of campers regarding medications, medical treatment or emergencies as neededQualifications :
Licensed and currently registered as a LPN, RN, EMT, Wilderness First Aid, or have reciprocity, to practice in the state of Oregon (please attach proof of registration)A Nurse Graduate who passed the NCLX prior to the beginning of the June season will be qualified and considered for the position (please attach proof)Ability to discreetly and effectively handle information of a confidential or sensitive natureAbility to understand our racially diverse student population's perspective, either through lived experience, previous qualifications, or work experienceAbility to navigate through potentially triggering and challenging conversations and situations while maintaining focus on the wellbeing of youthFamiliarity with culturally responsive and anti-oppression frameworks and experience working with racially and ethnically diverse staff and youthAbility to set appropriate boundaries in a proactive and positive mannerWillingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular and long hours. Requires on-site living in rustic staff quarters.A vegetarian option (that may include eggs and / or dairy) will be available for all meals. We do our best to accommodate other dietary restrictions; however, employees with special dietary needs should plan to bring food to supplement or replace provided meals. Please address specific needs with your supervisor.Typical days are 10 hours in length, with sessions that make for up to 10 straight days of workAlcohol and drugs are not permitted on campus, even in personal living quarters.Working Conditions :
