Information Technology Specialist
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
This job provides technical assistance and/or support to users and supervisors. Duties include developing and generating reports; developing and providing training programs for departmental computer users; assisting with problem solving and troubleshooting, installing and maintaining software, and maintaining inventories of equipment and parts. Work requires considerable judgment and initiative in independently completing assigned tasks and evaluating departmental needs. Tact and courtesy must be exercised in frequent contacts with users and departmental employees. Work is performed under general supervision of the IT Specialist III.
Performs technical functions in the access of and use of information technology within the County
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develops and generates specific departmental reports.
- Maintains departmental software packages, databases, and gathers specific departmental information.
- Providing user training.
- Troubleshoots and makes diagnosis of software/hardware problems.
- Installs and maintains computers, software, and related equipment.
- Assists with and coordinates repairs of software or equipment malfunctions.
- Manages inventory of related equipment and parts.
- Play a role in the County’s web presence
- Coordinates parts and equipment repairs and makes recommendations for the purchase of new equipment and software.
- Acts as liaison to Information Technology Department.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of system software, operating environments, and networks; and repair and maintenance of computers.
- Knowledge of database development and information retrieval.
- Working ability to diagnose and troubleshooting software/hardware and related problems.
- Knowledge of inventory management.
- Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with users, vendors, and other employees.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND TRAINING
Graduation from a two year college with a degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
