Position Summary
The Soccer Coach is the head coach of the Calhoun Community College Soccer team and is responsible for carrying out all duties necessary to prepare an athletic team for a season of excellence. The Soccer Coach must be sure the student-athletes prioritize academics over athletics and ensure that the team represents the College in a positive and competitive manner. The Soccer Coach must also have a strong work ethic, and ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, NJCAA, ACCC, and institutional policies and regulations in all endeavors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Participate in the supervision of players on and off the field.
- Report all prevalent activities and actions to the athletic director and the president.
- Follow the proper chain of command with any relevant issues in the college.
- Maintain a proper working relationship with all faculty and staff at Calhoun.
- Assist with facilities being used by the Soccer team.
- Organize practices, competition plans, and tournaments for the soccer team.
- Consistently monitor team equipment to ensure that it is properly used.
- Exemplify proper conduct for the student athletes and toward all members of the college and in the community.
- Organize the Soccer program which may include camps, recruiting, hosting tournaments, strength and conditioning training, monitor player responsibilities, supervising Athletic Study Hall, Athletic Grade Checks, attend Coaches meetings, and any other duties assigned relating to the Soccer program.
- Carry out the day-to-day administrative and coaching duties of the Soccer team, including scheduling and travel, overseeing games, training, conditioning, and other related duties.
- Work with student athletes of varying abilities and backgrounds, and instill a focus on academics, discipline, and teamwork in student athletes.
- Maintain good public relations with media, boosters, advisory committee members, officials, and community members, including providing results and statistics to the media and other organizations as required.
- Recruit qualified student-athletes that will represent the College in a positive and competitive manner and provide quality Soccer coaching to members of the Soccer team.
- Maintain athletic budget as well as club fundraising according to College policy.
- In order to perform these essential functions, the Soccer Coach must be present at work; therefore, attendance is an essential function.
- Participate in the practice schedule and facility use with the coaches of the Athletic Department and proper supervisors.
- Participate in fundraising activities for the soccer program and the Athletic Department.
- Provide competent instruction in the area of credentialed expertise.
- Provide academic and career advice to students and promote student leadership and enrichment experiences.
- Become familiar with institutional policies and procedures as outlined in the College Catalog, Personnel Handbook, and State Board Policy Manual; and follow such policies and procedures.
- Maintain and increase competency in the chosen specialty by seeking new knowledge, and improving teaching skills.
- Promote positive and productive relationships with service area businesses, industries, and agencies.
- Provide advice to the administration on matters pertaining to the soccer program.
- Create a working relationship with the athletic coaches, supervisors, and the soccer teams.
- Perform other appropriate professional duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.
Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution is required.
- Valid CDL preferred or the ability to be licensed is required.

- Demonstrated expertise in subject specialty.

- Ability to deal effectively with students, parents, other employees, and the public.
- Commitment to all students, including those of diverse cultures and ethnic backgrounds.
- Understanding of basic computer skills.
- Ability to coordinate and coach a Soccer team.
- Effective interpersonal skills, to be able to work with student-athletes of varying abilities and cultural or socio-economic backgrounds, as well as the media, boosters, officials, and other individuals and organizations.
- Commitment to strong work ethic and be able to work collaboratively with other coaches, faculty, administrators, and support staff to support student-athletes.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to oversee athletes, team managers, assistant coaches, and all other staff.
- Ability to lead, motivate, and supervise student athletes.
- Knowledge of appropriate safety rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of current coaching methods, collegiate eligibility standards, first aid, and sports medicine practices.
- Ability to handle various situations in a calm and professional manner.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize issues.
- Ability to operate in a professional manner at all times.
- Ability to operate in a high pressure situation and respond to issues in a calm manner.
- Maintain a positive attitude regardless of the issues at hand.
- Confidence in decision making and communication skills.
