Under the general direction of the Deputy Director, the Road Operations Supervisor is responsible for the direct supervision and management of road workers 24/7, as well as mechanics and other non-supervisory positions as assigned. This role oversees front-line operations, coordinates work schedules and assignments, evaluates and manages employee performance, and supports various activities, programs, and projects to ensure safe and efficient road maintenance year-round. This position requires strong leadership, problem-solving skills, and the ability to respond to emergencies. The role includes one designated position to provide on-site supervision during the night shift during the winter schedule.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Provides direct supervision for road workers, as well as mechanics and related non-supervisory positions as assigned at the Road Department.Coordinates and effectively communicates daily work schedules and assignments.Monitors and evaluates employee performance and provides coaching, mentoring, discipline, training, and recognition as needed. Performs daily administrative tasks accurately and responsively, including but not limited to, review of time sheets, time off requests, travel expense items, invoices, reports, service requests, and other items as may be assigned. Prepares operational reports as needed.Works to resolve service requests, customer complaints, and general inquiries in a timely and professional manner.Works closely with Managing and Deputy Directors, the Contract and Purchasing Fleet Manager, stockroom employees, and road workers to ensure that equipment, tools, and facilities are properly used and maintained for daily operations, projects, programs, and safety. Assists in evaluating equipment replacement needs and purchase requirements.Ensures all materials and supplies necessary for daily operations, projects, and safety are available, delivered, and properly used.Monitors the adherence to policies, procedures, and work rules. Provides input for policy and procedure improvement with an emphasis on efficiency and effectiveness and assists with implementation as needed.Ensures that the collective bargaining agreement is followed in regard to scheduling, overtime, seniority rotations, and other related matters. Maintains proactive, regular communication, assistance, and exchange of information with CCRD team members in administration, operations, engineering, and fleet maintenance.Coordinates closely with the management team to build and maintain a positive, energetic, and participative workplace culture.Assists with planning, development, administration, and evaluation of road maintenance programs, construction projects, and asset management, including staffing needs, scheduling, budget review, service scope, cost, effectiveness, and efficiency.Other activities, programs, projects, and duties as may be assigned.
