$26.60 per hour, $4,610.67 per month, $55,328.00 per year

Under limited supervision, the Account Clerk Supervisor I plans, directs, evaluates, and participates in the work of an office support unit responsible for account and statistical record-keeping activities in a manual or automated environment; establishes and maintains minor administrative records; and performs related work as required.

The Account Clerk Supervisor I is the first supervisory level in the Account Clerk series.

The Account Clerk Supervisor I differs from the Account Clerk Supervisor II in that the latter is responsible for supervision of Account Clerk Supervisors and other lead-workers in a complex, multi-level organizational structure.
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Plans, assigns, supervises, and reviews the work of a unit of employees performing fiscal and statistical record-keeping activities in a manual or automated environment.
  • Selects, trains, evaluates, and disciplines subordinate staff.
  • Determines need for staff training and oversight, and provides appropriate training and direction.
  • Schedules and monitors workload to ensure completion within established regulations, procedures, and timelines.
  • Develops or revises work practices and procedures to ensure efficiency and conformance with technical requirements and management direction.
  • Holds individual or group meetings to explain or interpret rules, regulations, and work procedures.
  • Performs the more difficult financial accounting duties assigned.
  • Maintains financial, statistical, work, payroll information, and case record information.
  • Handles difficult interactions with the public and explains regulatory and procedural guidelines.
  • Establishes and updates administrative records and summaries for sections supervised such as: budgetary, personnel and payroll records, inventory control, workload, workflow and production output, and regulatory and procedural manuals.
  • Oversees and operates automated systems that involve interpretation of requirements.
  • May generate and/or oversee the production of fiscal and statistical reports through automated systems.
  • Locates discrepancies related to the compilation and recording of information and reconciles reports to control documents or offset balances.
  • Composes reports and correspondence (e.g., letters, memorandums) using appropriate grammar and spelling.
  • Compiles multiple pieces of information clearly and concisely into an organized and understandable written report/document.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Knowledge of:
  • Advanced mathematics and statistics such as complex decimal, fraction, percentage formulas, and statistical calculations.
  • Bookkeeping, accounting, and financial auditing procedures.
  • Laws, rules, and regulations governing the maintenance of account, fiscal, and case records in the area assigned.
  • English grammar, vocabulary, spelling, punctuation, and composition.
  • Supervisory and staff development techniques and practices.
  • Computer terminology and the use of automated systems in an office environment.
  • Common word processing, spreadsheet, and database software packages.
  • Methods and techniques used in researching, proofing, evaluating, gathering, organizing, and arranging data.
Ability to:
  • Organize, direct, and prioritize unit activities.
  • Select, train, supervise, evaluate, and discipline subordinate staff.
  • Read, understand, and apply rules, regulations, accounting practices, and procedural guidelines.
  • Communicate the interpretation and application of complex regulations and procedures pertaining to the responsibilities of the unit.
  • Perform very complex accounting and statistical record keeping tasks.
  • Operate the department's automated system as it relates to the fiscal programs of the department.
  • Enter data quickly and accurately into automated system.
  • Compose reports and correspondence (e.g., letters, memorandums) using appropriate grammar and spelling.
  • Compile multiple pieces of information clearly and concisely into an organized and understandable written report/document.
  • Maintain journals, ledgers, and complex accounting and case records.
One (1) year of full-time experience performing advanced journey level or lead worker clerical accounting work, involving the maintenance of fiscal and statistical records in an office environment.
  • A valid driver's license will be required at the time of interview. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
  • Positions require pre-employment screening, including background checks, and fingerprinting.
  • Government agencies accessing US government information, which includes federal tax information, must ensure that background investigation requirements for all agency employees and contractors that have access to federal tax information are consistent to the IRS background investigation requirements for access to federal tax information. A background check is required for all Social Services positions. Background requirements consist of three components which include fingerprinting, citizenship verification, and local law enforcement checks. Applicable agencies must conduct investigations during time of hire and ensure a reinvestigation is conducted 5 years from the date of the previous background investigation for each employee that has access to federal tax information.
  • Lake County is required to verify Employment and Education if a conditional offer of employment is made to an applicant.
  • Lake County offers: Flexible Office Hours available for most positions; Monday Friday with a variety of schedules between 6:30am - 7:00pm.
  • Work remotely from home available for some positions upon Lake County Department of Social Services Approval.

EXAMINATION INFORMATION

Training & Experience Examination – Weighted 100% 

The Training & Experience Examination is designed to elicit a range of specific information regarding each candidate’s knowledge, skill, abilities, and potential to effectively perform the duties relative to the classification. Responses to the questionnaire will be assessed based on pre-determined rating criteria. All applicants must complete the entire examination to receive a score. To obtain a position on the eligible list, candidates must receive a minimum rating of 70% on the examination.  Examination administration and processing time is approximately two weeks after the closing date of the job bulletin.  

 

ELIGIBLE LIST INFORMATION 

A departmental open eligible list will be established for the county of Lake. The list will be utilized for 12 months after it is established unless the needs of the service and conditions of the list warrant a change in this period. 


RETEST PERIOD 

Once you have taken the examination, you may not retest for SIX (6) MONTHS from the established eligibility date.

Transcripts and evaluations may be unofficial; official transcripts may be required upon appointment. Please redact birthdates and social security numbers. 

 

GENERAL INFORMATION

General Qualifications: Applicants must possess essential personal qualifications including integrity, initiative, dependability, good judgement, the ability to work cooperatively with others, and a state of health consistent with the ability to perform the assigned duties of the class. A medical examination may be required. As part of the hiring process, a background investigation may be required.
