What are the responsibilities and job description for the CNC Lathe Setup/Operator position at Caliber Aerospace, LLC?
Summary/objective
The CNC Lathe Operator sets up and operates one or more CNC machine tools, bar loaders and feeders, to specification on a production basis. Ensures work is performed ethically while achieving the objectives stated in the Company Quality Policy. Ensures work is completed efficiently and adequately while following company safety policies and procedures. Performs other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Familiar with Tsugami lathes
Essential functions

- Set up machines to the Manufacturing Set-Up Specifications. Load raw material, load CNC program, and install assigned tooling, begin running machine to produce first article inspection pieces.
- Begin running the machine while monitoring the operation through visual and audio observation.
- Inspect and measure machined parts/components using a variety of inspection equipment to verify conformance to print.
- Monitor all machine accessories during the machining operation and replace worn machine accessories such as inserts, blades, drills, taps, end mills.
- Monitor all cutting/lubrication fluids in the machines and add oil to the machine reservoir when required.
- Follow standard operating procedures for completing each work order and after each job tear down the machine and prepare for the next set-up per work instructions.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area. Ensure floors and equipment are clean and dry, the workstation is uncluttered, and all machines and equipment are free from any hazards
- Comply with all company policies and procedures.
- Adhere to department expectations. Meet/exceed department performance expectations such as throughput, productivity, quality, and safety.

Work Environment
· This is a machining environment with several types of machine centers running at the same time.
- The work environment can be noisy and hazardous.
- Personal Protective Equipment is required: Safety shoes, gloves, and earplugs.
- Prolonged standing for long periods of time while operating machines.
- Bending and Reaching: requires bending, reaching, and manipulating parts during setup and operation.
- Operators may be exposed to fumes and airborne particles emitted by fluids used in the machines.
- The work environment can be demanding due to tight production schedules.
- Lifting: Operators may lift and carry materials weighing up to 75 lbs.
Physical Demands
- Prolonged standing and walking
- Constant free mobility of hands, wrists, and arms.
- Extended periods of squatting, standing, climbing, kneeling, and walking.
- Occasional grasping, bending, stooping, and twisting.
- Some physical and mechanical dexterity is required to physically lift, pull, push, and apply force up to 75 lbs.
- Must be able to lift 75 lbs.
- Close vision is required to inspect parts/components, inspect machines, and read documents and drawings.

Required Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent (Preferred)
- 2 years’ experience minimum, (Lathe and/or Swiss Machining)
Preferred education and experience
- Technical or trade school certification
