Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager with a strong focus on corporate tax (Forms 1120) and partnership tax (Forms 1065) to join our public accounting firm. The ideal candidate will have comprehensive experience in corporate tax compliance, consulting, and tax research. You will lead a team in handling tax provisions, multistate tax issues (SALT/Nexus), and IRS/state notice responses. This role requires a strategic mindset and the ability to manage client relationships while providing high level tax consulting and overseeing the tax preparation and compliance process.
Salary Range - $85,000 - $150,000 (depending on experience)
Key Responsibilities:
Tax Preparation & Review:
- Oversee and review the preparation of Forms 1040 & 1120 (corporate tax returns) and Forms 1065 (partnership tax returns) for a diverse portfolio of clients.
- Ensure all filings are timely, accurate, and comply with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
- Manage complex multi-state tax filings, specializing in SALT (State and Local Tax) issues and nexus compliance.
- Supervise tax adjustments, ensuring proper calculations and documentation using Engagement software.
Consulting Services:
- Provide high-level payroll-related tax consulting, advising clients on compliance for federal and state withholding, FICA, unemployment tax, and other payroll-related matters.
- Lead efforts to identify SALT/Nexus risks, guide clients through state tax registration and compliance procedures.
- Conduct in-depth tax research and prepare detailed memoranda on tax matters, including state-specific tax laws and federal updates.
- Work directly with clients to design effective tax-saving strategies and provide proactive tax planning advice.
IRS & State Notice Response:
- Manage communications with federal and state tax authorities, responding to IRS and state notices, audits, and other tax-related issues.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of documentation to resolve discrepancies and disputes in a timely manner.
- Serve as the primary contact for client inquiries and ensure the smooth resolution of any tax issues or audits.
Tax Provisions & Compliance:
- Oversee the preparation and review of tax provisions for corporate clients, ensuring compliance with ASC 740 (Accounting for Income Taxes).
- Coordinate with the finance team to calculate and adjust quarterly and annual tax provisions, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting.
- Stay informed of the latest tax legislation changes and ensure that tax provisions are aligned with current tax law.
Tax Adjustments & Reporting:
- Review and adjust tax calculations to ensure accurate tax reporting and financial statement disclosures.
- Collaborate with the accounting and audit teams to reconcile tax differences and ensure tax adjustments are properly reflected in financial statements.
Qualifications:
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation required.
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Masters in Taxation or JD/LLM in Taxation is a plus).
- 6 years of corporate and partnership tax experience, with a focus on Forms 1040, 1120 and 1065 in a public accounting or corporate tax environment.
- Proven expertise in payroll tax consulting, SALT/Nexus issues, and IRS/state notice resolution.
- Extensive knowledge of tax provisions, with hands-on experience in ASC 740.
- Proficiency with Engagement software for tax adjustments and advanced Excel skills.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to clearly explain complex tax issues to clients and colleagues.
