What are the responsibilities and job description for the Principal Scientist, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, and Mass Spectrometry position at Calico Life Sciences?
Who We Are
Calico (Calico Life Sciences LLC) is an Alphabet-founded research and development company whose mission is to harness advanced technologies and model systems to increase our understanding of the biology that controls human aging. Calico will use that knowledge to devise interventions that enable people to lead longer and healthier lives. Calico’s highly innovative technology labs, its commitment to curiosity-driven discovery science, and, with academic and industry partners, its vibrant drug-development pipeline, together create an inspiring and exciting place to catalyze and enable medical breakthroughs.
Position Description
Calico seeks an individual experienced in mechanistic Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, and Mass Spectrometry interested in identifying and understanding the causes of age-associated degenerative processes including inflammaging and immune aging. We are interested in applicants with demonstrated experience applying biochemical, molecular, immunological, and cell biological approaches to study the physiology of aging cells. We are seeking a scientist that can deploy advanced molecular, cellular, and immunological techniques to integrate mechanistic findings with observations made in vivo and with hypotheses derived from human data sets. The successful candidate will utilize innovative biochemical and omics technologies and have a long-term interest in understanding the pathobiology of aging and aging-related diseases, with a particular emphasis on dysregulation of organelle function, stress signaling and metabolism.
Principal Scientists at Calico are expected to be independent and function well in a highly collaborative, cross-functional research environment working closely with state-of-the art technology labs, physiology, as well as data science and machine learning groups and can lead ambitious research projects. In this role, the ideal candidate would act as a scientific advisor to senior leadership and provide direction and mentorship to cross-functional research and technology team members.
