JOB SUMMARY:
The Estimator is responsible for evaluating the merit of potential projects for which Caliente is considering submitting a bid proposal. This position will provide assessments of project viability, constructability, and inherent risk for the Caliente. The Estimator is expected to review and quantify the project scope in terms of costing estimates, project timelines, bid specifications and drawings.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position may oversee the Estimating/Bid Coordinator.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Assembles all information necessary to prepare estimates that are accurate and competitive with a goal of successfully bidding and
winning the project
· Determines and provides input on project viability and alignment with Caliente’s strategic plan
· Performs "hard-bid", "select-bid", ROM, and conceptual estimates; demonstrated ability to assemble detailed costing ROMs and
estimates, including in-depth individualized takeoffs for all project scopes
· Recommends resource assignments accurately through the review of all project documentation, including but not limited to, the plans,
drawings, specifications, contract terms and conditions, ITB, RFP, and RFI
· Attends pre-bid and post-bid meetings and formal project presentations, as necessary
· Manages project estimate timelines through project meetings, project site walks, RFI deadlines, required documentation, reviews and
others, as required
· Reviews bid requirements thoroughly and collaborates with project stakeholder to request clarification for any missing or unclear
information and ensures addendums are acknowledged and conveyed to subcontractors, as necessary
· Ensures quality subcontractor and vendor partnerships through selection process/consistent vetting, personal engagement, relationship
building and elimination of exclusions with opportunity to create potential for scope gaps
· Prices alternates and change orders, as needed, utilizing proper labor units and subcontractor pricing
· Maintains quality service by following Caliente’s processes and organizational standards
· Mentors estimating staff, including Bid Coordinator(s) and Junior Estimator(s)
FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

· Four-year degree in Construction Management or equivalent area of study and a minimum of five (5) years of job-related experience
· Knowledge of the construction estimating process including estimating systems
· Extensive commercial construction experience with the ability to read plans and understand construction specification requirements to
determine the total costs of a construction project from concept through completion, as well as subsequent maintenance operations
· Ability to successfully develop, maintain, and enhance relationships with subcontractors, vendor partners, colleagues, and project
stakeholders
· Demonstrated proficiency with applicable software, including MS Office, BuildingConnected, On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam,
SharePoint, Powerproject, Procore, and others
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Strong organizational skills, detail oriented, efficient, and reliable
· Positive leadership with the ability to recognize how individual actions affect the team as a whole
· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, flexible and adaptable to changes to planned tasks or schedule
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Must be able to work 40 hours per week or more, if required
· Ability to lift and/or carry up to 20 lbs. unassisted
· May require repetitive use of arms, hands and fingers
· May require prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing throughout workday
· Willing to travel to various job sites and/or employee recruitment and work locations
· Valid driver license and proof of insurability required when job duties require use of motor vehicle
· Requires exercising of discretion in decision making process and maintaining strict confidentiality with respect to applicant, employee
and company proprietary related information
