Conducts onsite visits including but not limited to, health visits, specialized targeted health onsite visits (e.g. special emphasis program/project visits) and the more complex health/industrial hygiene onsite visits (e.g. involves extensive experience, knowledge and skills in industrial hygiene principles, practices and methods) and complex industrial hygiene work, such as research, writing technical reports for publication and workplace sampling; Serves as Team Coordinator: leads, coordinates, plans, organizes, reviews and directs the work of a teams of Industrial Hygienists assigned to perform, including but not limited to, health-related, specialized emphasis program/project, and targeted industry visits; oversees and conduct inspections focus on workplace health hazards resulting from or exacerbated by climate change, such as but not limited to extreme heat, valley fever, wildfire smoke and new unanticipated hazards that impacts the health and safety of workers; conducts major health research; makes and secures recommendations for the prevention, elimination, and/or control of health hazards; assists the Program Manager and Regional Manager with including, but not limited to, establishing, developing, implementing, evaluating and maintaining health-related consultation procedures, training programs, policies and guidelines on such matters as conducting health – related case audits, specialized emphasis and targeted program visits.
The Senior Industrial Hygienist assists with the development of programs for promotion of industrial hygiene concepts; provides technical advice to the Program Manager and other Cal/OSHA staff. The Senior Industrial Hygienist is to perform all work in accordance with DIR-DOSH policies, DOSH Consultation Policy and Procedure Manual, Directives, and Memorandums. Travels throughout the state as required.

Working outdoors in a wide range of weather conditions (e.g. rain, strong winds, heat, and cold); Working indoors at various work places; sitting at a desk, in a chair, and in front of a computer screen, for an extended periods of time; Sitting at a desk, in a chair for extended periods, including but not limited to, during meetings, training, or workplace inspections; Moving/walking and standing for extended periods of time, including but not limited to, on slopes, uneven, rough, wet, and/or slippery surfaces/terrain; Using a multi-line telephone console or a cordless telephone with headset; Bending, squatting, crouching, kneeling, stooping and twisting; Perform repetitive hand motion, simple grasping, fine finger manipulation, pushing and pulling with right and left hands; Reaching (above and below shoulder level); Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds of equipment or work related materials; Climbing up and down/balancing stairs, ladders, stoops, slopes; Dressing appropriately for working in the field, including proper use of personal protective equipment (safety boots, protective suits, hearing protection, respiratory protection, safety eyewear, hard hat, cooling vests, gloves, etc.);Traveling via private, State vehicle, or public transportation (i.e. automobile, airplane, etc.) including overnight travel inside California may be required; Have functional vision.
Special Requirements
Possession of a Certificate in the Comprehensive Practice of Industrial Hygiene issued by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene or a Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
