ASSOCIATE INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST

This position will perform duties to support and implement CalOSHA Title 8 regulations for CalRecycle as a member of the CalRecycle Health and Safety Section. The Associate IH will perform difficult industrial hygiene and safety work through the recognition, evaluation, and control of workplace and environmental hazards. This is a full journey level position and will be used as a safety expert and in a lead capacity. The Associate IH will support the Department's Local Enforcement Agency (LEA) equipment loan program; environmental field site visits, remediation, and emergency clean-up activities with the collection, analysis, and evaluation of environmental monitoring data to determine and ensure occupational and public health and safety.

This position may be eligible for hybrid telework under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria set forth in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position’s designated
headquarters location, as indicated on their duty statement, at their own expense.
Beginning July 1st, 2025, CalRecycle employees will be required to report into the office four days a week.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
  • Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, problem solving abilities and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Experience in safety inspections, accident investigations and consultations.
  • Experience using specialized equipment such as air sampling equipment and other monitoring tools.
  • Knowledge of industrial hygiene standards and regulations.
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist certification preferred.
