What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director, Office of Native American Affairs position at California Department of Justice?
Under the general direction of the Chief of Staff, the Director is responsible for the strategic planning, organizing, and policy development for the Office of Native American Affairs within the Directorate Division. This includes the development of a comprehensive strategy to reach tribal communities at a local, regional and statewide level; providing leadership, direction and policy recommendations for the Attorney General and Executive management; and to improve the government-to-government relationships with tribal governments. The Director will facilitate and promote a framework for statewide tribal and state partnerships that will encourage the coordination and collaboration between tribal, state, federal and local justice agencies. You will work closely with local, state, tribal and federal agencies to advocate for the health, welfare and safety of tribal communities and provide recommendations and alternative actions in response to federal and state legislation and regulations. It is expected that this person will be a subject matter expert on topics related to justice in California’s Indian Country.
