Job Description And Duties
This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by supporting chronic disease evidence-based intervention programs that promote healthy behaviors, healthy communities, and improve the prevention, diagnosis, and management of chronic disease. This position is eligible for telework in accordance with CDPH telework guidelines.
The Health Program Specialist (HPS) II serves as the Diabetes Lead, providing leadership, organization, planning, coordination, and programmatic and contractual oversight to the type 2 diabetes prevention and management team. Leads policy change around diabetes and other chronic diseases, works collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure progress and meaningful impact of programmatic strategies, and implements, refines, and evaluates various program components. Oversees the refinement and adaptation of evidence-based practices and evaluation tools, monitors program activities and deliverables, and collaborates with key state and local community agencies.
The incumbent works under the general direction of the Health Program Manager (HPM) II, Chief, within the Chronic Disease Control Branch (CDCB), Program and Policy Section.
Health Program Specialist II (HPS II)
If new to California state service, you will need to have taken and passed the examination for this classification in order to be hired for this position. If you are a current state employee, but do not have transfer eligibility or list eligibility, you will need to have taken and passed the examination for this classification in order to be hired for this position. This position may be eligible for telework up to three (3) days per week and is required to report in-person to the designated headquarters office location a minimum of two (2) days per week. The amount of telework permitted is at the discretion of the Department and is subject to change, consistent with CDPH’s Telework Program. All employees who telework are required to be California residents in accordance with Government Code 14200. Candidates who reside outside of the state of California may be interviewed; however, the selected candidate must have a primary residency in the state of California prior to appointment (and continue to maintain California residency) as a condition of employment. Failure to meet this requirement may result in the job offer being rescinded. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated headquarters office subject to regulations and bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the designated headquarters office will be the responsibility of the selected candidate. The headquarters office location for this position is identified in the attached duty statement.
