The California Specialized Training Institute (CSTI) delivers specialized training throughout California as well as at its main campus in San Luis Obispo year-round. CSTI offers over 100 course titles in the disciplines of emergency management, criminal justice and homeland security, hazardous materials emergency response, disaster preparedness, mitigation and recovery, and crisis communications.

Under supervision of the Senior Emergency Management Coordinator, the Office Technician (T) assists with the coordination and administration of specialized training for state and local emergency response officials under the California Hazardous Substances Incident Response Training and Education Program established pursuant to California Government Code Section 8574.20 and implemented through 19 CCR 2510-2560. This entails providing enrollment and student services (registrar duties), and technical and clerical support to hazardous materials training projects at CSTI’s San Luis Obispo campus and throughout the state. Will execute organizational processes to ensure satisfactory delivery of this mandated training program.

The Planning, Preparedness, and Prevention Directorate develops and maintains statewide plans and planning guidance for local emergency management, state agencies, and tribal governments, including specialized programs for radiological preparedness, dam safety, seismic hazards, and earthquake early warning. This directorate also includes the California Specialized Training Institute which provides exercise support and courses in emergency management, hazardous materials response, criminal justice/officer safety, fire & rescue, and crisis communications.

In the event of an emergency, employees may be contacted and requested to report to work in the event of an emergency. This contact may be outside of your normal working hours (evenings/nights, weekends, and holidays). This service may require irregular work hours, work locations other than the official duty location, and may include duties other than those specified in your official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and you may be required to relocate to emergency sites.
