Job Overview:

The High School Math Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging and rigorous instruction in mathematics to students in grades 9-12. The teacher will create an inspiring and supportive learning environment where students can develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and quantitative reasoning skills. The ideal candidate is dedicated to fostering a love for mathematics, ensuring academic growth, and preparing students for advanced coursework and college readiness.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Curriculum and Instructional Design:

  • Design and deliver comprehensive math instruction that aligns with state standards and focuses on key concepts, such as algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and mathematical reasoning.
  • Develop detailed lesson plans and instructional materials that incorporate a variety of teaching strategies, including lectures, hands-on activities, collaborative group work, and real-world problem-solving.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students, including English language learners and students with special educational needs, ensuring equitable access to mathematics education.
  • Utilize project-based learning, technology tools, and interactive resources to engage students and make mathematical concepts relevant and accessible.
  • Emphasize critical thinking and reasoning in mathematical inquiry, helping students understand not just how to solve problems, but why mathematical processes work.2. Teaching Effectiveness:
  • Employ research-based teaching practices to facilitate student understanding of complex mathematical concepts, encouraging active learning and deeper comprehension.
  • Use formative and summative assessments, including quizzes, exams, projects, and performance tasks, to monitor student progress and adjust instruction as needed.
  • Encourage student participation through discussions, group work, and class activitiesthat enhance problem-solving skills and collaboration.
  • Continuously assess student understanding, offering remediation or enrichment asnecessary to support individual learning goals.

3. Student Engagement and Classroom Environment:

  • Create a classroom atmosphere that fosters curiosity, perseverance, and a positive attitude toward mathematics.
  • Develop strategies that make math accessible and enjoyable, encouraging students to overcome challenges and develop a growth mindset.
  • Maintain high expectations for student behavior and performance while providing the necessary support to help all students succeed.
  • Incorporate real-life applications and interdisciplinary connections to help students see the relevance of mathematics in various fields and careers.4. Assessment and Feedback:
  • Design a variety of assessments that measure student proficiency in mathematical concepts, problem-solving, and analytical thinking.
  • Provide timely, clear, and constructive feedback to help students reflect on their understanding and improve their skills.
  • Analyze assessment data to identify areas where students may need additional support and adjust instructional practices accordingly.
  • Use ongoing feedback to guide students toward mastery of mathematical skills and concepts, providing opportunities for re-assessment when appropriate.5. Professional Development and Collaboration:
  • Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay updated on best practices in mathematics education, including new research, instructional techniques, and technological tools.
  • Collaborate with other faculty members to develop cross-curricular projects that integrate math with other subjects, fostering interdisciplinary learning.
  • Engage in reflective practices and seek feedback from colleagues and supervisors to continually improve instructional effectiveness and classroom management.
  • Actively contribute to school committees, workshops, and initiatives that promote academic excellence and the development of a school-wide culture of learning.6. Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Maintain consistent communication with students, parents, and school leadership regarding academic progress, classroom activities, and student needs.
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences, school events, and extracurricular activities that strengthen the school community and provide support to students beyond the classroom.
  • Serve as an advisor and mentor to students, offering guidance in both academic and personal development, and helping them set goals for their future education and career paths.
  • Work closely with counselors, learning specialists, and school administrators to ensure a comprehensive approach to student success and well-being.

7. Resource Management:

  • Ensure that students have access to high-quality materials and resources that support their understanding of mathematics, including textbooks, manipulatives, online platforms, and other instructional tools.
  • Utilize technology effectively to enhance teaching and learning, including the use of interactive whiteboards, graphing calculators, and educational software.
  • Collaborate with the administration to secure additional resources when needed, such as supplemental materials, tutoring programs, or advanced math courses.Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 1 year of teaching experience, preferably at the high school level.
  • Strong knowledge of state standards for mathematics education and experiencedesigning curriculum that aligns with these standards.
  • Proven ability to differentiate instruction and use a variety of assessment methods tomeet diverse student needs.
  • Experience using technology to support and enhance math instruction, includingeducational apps, software, and learning management systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and inspirestudents, as well as collaborate effectively with parents and colleagues.Core Competencies:
