Job Description
We are seeking a Method Development Specialist/Senior Analyst interested in working in a family-run, commercial, environmental, production laboratory, serving Northern California for over 40 years.
Primary duties include timely development and implementation of 500- and 600-series EPA methods in preparation for accreditation, typically within the Organics department. Must have demonstrated experience with sophisticated instrumentation (such as LC/MS/MS and GC/MS/MS), serving as technical expert. Must be able to resolve complex technical or operational challenges, effectively monitor scientific progress and manage timeline milestones. Responsible for providing expert interpretation of results.
Additional duties may involve extraction of organic constituents through a variety of techniques such as liquid/liquid, solid/liquid and solid-phase; preparing appropriate glassware and extraction apparatus to 'ultra-clean,' contaminant-free analytical specifications for trace-level analyses; maintaining thorough documentation of preparatory procedures according to established requirements; and providing support to co-workers as needed.

COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
- Must be able to perform tasks for regulatory studies working under prescribed procedures (standard operating procedures, methods, established quality control parameters, etc.); document and report data in a thorough and timely manner according to regulatory requirements; and ensure data accuracy and quality.
- Must be able to effectively communicate, summarize and present information as well as respond to questions from groups such as management, clients and colleagues.
- Must be able to exercise professional judgement working independently with minimum supervision as well as working effectively in a team environment.
- Knowledge of scientific discipline, relevant technical skills and laboratory equipment required.
- Organizational skills, attention-to-detail, good documentation practices and ability to follow direction required.
- Ability to train others, required. Technical project leadership skills are highly desirable.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel required, knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint and LIMS desired.
- Experience with state and federal regulatory bodies and/or requirements (i.e. CA-ELAP and TNI) as well as method validation and accreditation, highly preferred.
- Safety conscientiousness. Safe handling of toxic chemicals, ability to maintain a clean and orderly workspace and an aptitude for exercising laboratory safety practices required. Knowledge of fume hood use and the use of personal protective equipment is desired.
- Typically requires at least 10 years related experience (non-academic) and a bachelor’s degree or five (5) years related experience (non-academic) and a master’s degree in a relevant field (such as chemistry, organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, environmental chemistry, etc.). An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered as a substitute.
- Must have an interest in working in a fast-paced, detail-oriented, dynamic laboratory setting and comfortable working with chemicals.

Salary : $80,000 - $110,000
