Position Description : Calumet County is seeking an intern to assist with watercraft inspections for the containment, prevention, and education of Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) for the 2025 summer season (250 hours). This position will also provide an educational work experience for a student majoring in Water Resources, Natural Resources, Soils, Agricultural Courses or related fields with the Calumet County Land and Water Conservation Department (LWCD) by assisting with conservation projects throughout the County (100 hours). The position will report directly to the Water Resource Specialist.
Position Description : Calumet County is seeking an intern to assist with Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) containment, prevention and education for the 2025 summer season. Position will report directly to the Water Resource Specialist.
Examples of Duties
Responsibilities :
- Increase awareness of AIS including regulations, laws and prevention steps with boaters, anglers and the general public at boat landings along Lake Winnebago, by conducting on-site interviews with boaters / anglers.
- Conduct watercraft inspections on incoming / outgoing watercraft using designated harbors.
- Train and educate watercraft owners and operators to conduct self-inspections of watercraft upon entering or leaving any launch.
- Complete necessary Clean Boats Clean Waters training, collect and record data, and report data in an online database.
- Assist with the coordination of volunteers.
- Watch for and record new species.
- Coordinate weekly schedule with Water Resource Specialist.
- Educate shore anglers about AIS and containment.
- Attend kids fishing programs and other events as determined by the Water Resource Specialist and grant deliverables.

Hours / Pay :
Up to 350 hours through September 2025 and pays $16.00 per hour.
A flexible schedule (25 - 37.5 hours / week) based on ability to match peak use of the public boat landings which includes most weekends, holidays, some evenings, and boating events. Must be able to work holidays including Memorial Day and July 4th. Extra hours will be expected during the week of the July 4th holiday.
